Mountain Biking Luge
#413 of 1,392 mountain bike trails in Colorado
Luge is the only downhill-only trail that is rated intermediate difficulty.
Compared to the beginner trails, it is quite a bit rockier, has more bermed turns,
and has a few jumps thrown in the mix. The pitch is also quite a bit steeper--
there are no sections that require lots of pedaling. Still, the rocks aren't all that
serious. If you wanted, you could comfortably ride this trail on a 5 inch travel
bike (or less I suppose, if you really wanted to).
Luge begins right off of the top of the chairlift, but it only runs about 3/4 of the
way down the mountain. At that point, you have a number of options. The two
most obvious options are to jump on the bottom half of Avery (black diamond)
or the Warming House Trail (green circle).

From the town of Crested Butte, drive north up the mountain on Hwy. 135 for
about 2 miles. Once in the town of Mount Crested Butte, just follow signs for
Crested Butte Mountain Resort. Park in one of the day parking areas.
This is my favorite trail at Evolution. Steep and fast with beautiful berms.
Thank |This trail features some big berms and a rather bumpy surface but it is still fast and flowing. It was getting some overdue maintenance when I was there. It is a mile long and descends 500 feet. Both Frequency and Five Away join onto it. From the bottom of Luge to the bottom of the chair is a bit of a bottle neck with Hotdogger, Timeline and Timetable also joining the fray. That's one of the problems with the downhill trails in Evolution Bike Park - you end up riding some trails over and over.
Thank |Intermediate trail at Evolution. This is a flowy trail with nice berms where you can maintain serious speed. Lots of fun!
Thank |Intermediate difficulty. Super fun ride that I found exhilarating without being a constant in-my-face challenge.
