Mountain Biking Rocky Gap State Park - Lakeside Loop

****   Add a review
#33 of 99 mountain bike trails in Maryland
#2,443 in the world

Mostly single track loop with a few short gravel or paved sections. Not overly technical but can get tight in spots. Fun ride nonetheless and a good spot to take beginners.

As a beginner mountain biker I really enjoyed this trail. This is a very close trail for me, just wish I would have discovered my new found love for biking sooner. I will be sure to go back to the gap!

Fun loop. Couple of sections with lots of rocks. Some roots. But mostly flowing single track. You can ride either direction and there's a moderate amount of foot traffic as well...most of the time you have good line of sight but there's a few spots you have to becareful. The trails are not particularly well maintained...or maintained at all from what I can tell. There's a few sections that have been blocked all summer by fallen trees that you have to ride/walk around. So not sure who takes care of the trails but they aren't doing a very good job of it. Otherwise...nice place to get in a few laps. Summertime you can cool off in the lake. There's three different beach areas.

As others have mentioned, there are lots of roots. There isn't anything particularly technical about the trail, but it is fun. I travel through the area for work and will stop in again for rides.

Fun loop around Lake Habeeb to get your blood pumping. Lots of roots and rocks in spots to make it a little more technical than you'd expect.

Fun Trial. Head up the mountain for more technical riding. Home of the 9 Hrs of Cranky Monkey.

There was some ok sections of the loop but most of it is not much more fun than riding a fire road. Lots of people use the trail for fishing and walking so it never seemed safe ride at a faster pace.

There is an additional 4 mile loop starting at top of hickory camping loop. Hills and rock gardens. Advanced riders

Rode the race course here and it was a blast. Old school trails that are rocky, fast, straight up and straight down. No dabs and good views.

Tried for the first time on June 15th (mid-week). What a wonderful surprise. Nice variety and a total blast! One of the best trails east of Mississippi. Really need to go mid-week. With blind turns can't imagine what would ensue with weekend hikers. Put it on the list!* Review edited 6/20/2011

Rode this trail last weekend with my wife and six year old on a tag along. Good trail to ride early in the morning before it gets crowded. Beach close by to cool off after the ride. Well worth the trip.

This trail was fun to ride, the back side of the lake after getting back on the trail from the short section of asphalt is awesome all the way to the lodge. Decent loop and not too long. Overall not too bad, just a very crowded trail.

Lakeside loop is fun intermediate with some interesting technical features. Evitts Homesite trail a tough long climb. Rocky trail lives up to its name. Unmarked trail in western section of park ( turn right out of the rear parking area then immediate right up the trail ) is very challenging

Trail had some real nice elevation shifts and tight spots. My cousin couldnt keep up.. hehe.

There is a golf resort right on the lake so its a good overnighter, plus there are other trails to be had as well. Use caution, as all trails are also hiking trails as well.
