Western Plantation
The Western Plantation, affectionately known as the Flat Track consists of a 6 km loop with a 7 km additional option (Leg Juicer). The Trail consists of 90% Single Track, 5% Fire Road and 5% obstacles. This track is aimed at beginner to intermediate level riders. However donít discount the ability of the terrain to put on a show. There are enough challenges for the most experienced rider. There is a seemingly endless amount of turns and twists. There are log rides, small rolling jumps, boardwalks and dry creek half-pipe obstacles to keep everyoneís interest, intriguing kids to conditioned athletes.

Within the Plantation, a Skills Area has been built, consisting of a concentration of boardwalks, ramps, crossings, log-rides and see-saws. Alongside the skills area is a Dirt Jump Section.

Stockyards
The Stockyards is 95 % Single Track and 5% Management Track. There are a number of trails from Green Circle Cross Country trails to Double Black Diamond Down Hill runs. The Stockyards is aimed at intermediate to advanced riders. Within the array of trails there are numerous fast flowing turns and timber berms, board walks, rock-gardens, step-ups and jumps. Each trail was designed and built with a purpose in mind. Please ride respectfully.

Excellent volume of trails, with enough variety for everyone. Lots of twisting forest singe track, but also lots of granite boulders and rock gardens too.

My current favourite is the Junction Track linking the two sections together, for its mix of turns, rocks and elevation change.

Great, fantastic maintained MTB course. Rode the Kurrajong area today, Eastern Epic (#1) and Chainsaw (#15) being my favorites.
    Will definatly come here again.

Good downhill park with ,lots of variety - only bad thing is the painful uphill! Was there during the week and could imagine the two way tracks could be a bit chaotic during a weekend when it is crowded. All in all it was a fantastic day out.

Lysterfield great, Arthurs Seat Good, Buxton excellent, You Yangs - on another level all together. Kicking myself for not visiting sooner - in saying that you absolutely want to get your skills up before tackling any of the black runs. Cressy Descent has some pretty hairy rock gardens. If you want rocks and massive obstacles You Yangs is the place to go, cant wait to get back.

Two networks of trails in the You Yangs . The southern trails are the Kurrajong trails , more beginner friendly than the northern Stockyard trails . The Kurrajong trails cover about 25 km of very sweet XC trails , through plantation forests of gum trees , flame trees & native flora & fauna . These trails weave through the southern part of the You Yangs(an extinct volcanoe) which stands with an obvious presence close by . It is a great place to blast some of the southern cross country trails or venture onto the more technically advanced northern trails of the Stockyard area of the You Yangs . Only a 45 minute drive from Melbourne offering a great variety of terrain , from the friendly XC Kurrajong trails to the more advanced trails of the Stockyards trails , the You Yangs are really a little mountain biking mecca just outside of Melbourne . Highly recommended for a visit , ... local volunteers & Parks Victoria do a great job maintaining this region of trails .

good tracks, but could have better mapping and layout. a track that leads to the top is good bt can only access a few tracks without riding much. really like the downhill sort of tracks.

Cool twisty single track through the eucalyptus groves. Big applause to the trail builders, impressive. Really enjoyed the #14 trail rock climb both uphill and down where the dropper post came in handy.
Folks in Little Creek could not have been friendlier, very cool little town. Being from Az/California and growing up in the weird 70's, was blown away with the cool Mad Max filming history in this area.
Tip: be fast getting the bike off the train, you have barely 60 sec.

The You Yangs Regional National Park is a vast fun network of singletrack trails . There are two main areas , Stockyards to the north , & the Kurrajong plantation to the south . Both areas lay in the You Yangs , the southern trail network is easier cross country mixed with crossing fire trails . The trail network is well signposted . The Stockyards area is for the more advanced mountain biking , with some double black diamond runs as well as single black diamond runs . There is a main trail that links all the other trails . Trails range from easy , intermediate fast flowing singletracks with burms , plenty of jumps , some very tricky rock garden sections particularly on Boulder Trail , as well as fast flowing singletrack & switchbacks & loops through this dormant Volcano region . Some of the more difficult trails are very challenging even to the most advanced bikers & the park itself has abundant wildlife , watch out for the kangaroos on the trails . There is a main carpark for Stockyards & the trails pretty much lead from the car park , taking a map is a help , as well as plenty of water & some power bars , there are some ball breaking climbs , however worth it . On some trails you get incredible views from the top of the mountains , in the distance on a clear day you can see the city of Melbourne standing alone in what seems like a desert (view from the You Yangs ) The park is open 24/7 & even on weekends you can still ride the trails on your lonesome . The views from some parts of the trails are truly spectacular , & the flowing singletracks are well designed , challenging & great fun . Its about a 45 minute drive from Melbourne , & it does really feel like you're riding in the wilderness , one thing the trails like a bit of rain as when its dry it can get a bit slidy on some sections . Trails like 'Lactic Acid' , 'Turbulence' , 'The Boulder Track' , 'Travs Diamond', 'Trilogy' & 'Cressy's Descent' all challenge even the most experienced mountain bikers . In Stockyards section of the You Yangs there are around 30 plus km of singletracks as well as kilometers of fire trails & linking trails , the Kurrajong plantation has an equally vast trail network , it really is a matter of going exploring . For a day out from town with not too much traveling , the You Yangs are a great place to disappear for as long as you like , highly recommended for a plethora of fun .

Thought i'd write a reveiw as all the other reveiws are a bit out of date.
Most of the trails have recently had a huge overhaul due to heavy winter rain and are fantastic. There a good range of trails from easy xc, all mountain and downhill.
I recommend downloading a map of the stockyards and plantation to save getting lost as you learn the trails. Once you learn your way around a lot of trails start and end in similar place so you get a good chance to mix it up, also some of the trails are bi-directional. My personal fav's are Lactic acid and Cressy's desent.
After years of riding boring xc trails the You Yangs has been a breath of fresh air. Put it this way i bought a 6" dually just for this place.
Finally for all you car free city slickers you can get to the yangs via Little river train station then a 10k ride. This what i do. Oh and don't worry you'll get a tailwind on the way home.
P.s. How somebody gave this place 1 star is beyond me.
    Happy riding

Came here for the first time last weekend and rode in the plantation area which was very ordinary single track. being a plantation trail, there was no dense scrub making the trail unpredictably exciting, you can see 100s of meters through the perfectly spaced trees.
The worst part about these trails was the 'maintanance', on the corners if there had been erosion or a pot hole, a sandy filler is being used to 'maintain' the trail! Riding through sand patches in a corner is ridiculous, in the first 500 meters I washed out the front tyre, corected from falling, then slammed into a tree with the shoulder. I am an experianced rider and have raced xc for years, this is the first spill ive had for 25+ rides, and it is purely due to some idiots filling the corners with soft sand insted of road base or something firm for the tyres to grip to! Overall the track is slow having to tiptoe though the deep soft sandy hazards and frusterating, It could of been good.* Review edited 11/11/2007

The Flat Track was a good ride although the track would be benefit from a few more obstacles. A few see-saw rides from skills area would be beneficial. Don't be misguided by the Flat Track name, it keeps the legs pumping.
