Good news for Atlanta area riders: SORBA Atlanta is teaming up with the National Park Service to repair the mountain bike trails at Sope Creek. As part of the project the NPS will also allow construction of 4-5 miles of NEW singletrack for mountain bikes – a huge win for ATL-area riders. The final MTB trail network will be a figure-8 that connects existing and new trails.

The entire project is slated for completion in 2010 and SORBA Atlanta has committed to providing 1,700 man hours for the reconstruction. The IMBA trail care crew will be out to Sope Creek to help sometime in 2009 and SORBA will be hosting volunteer training starting in January.

This is a pretty cool project for us because: 1. We’ve ridden at Sope Creek for years and have witnessed the slow degredation of the MTB trails and 2. We’re card-carrying SORBA Atlanta members. Although SORBA Atlanta is technically made up of ITP (inside the perimeter) riders and Sope Creek is OTP, (outside the perimeter) I’m stoked that our club is stepping up to make the new and improved trails a reality. Details about volunteer training and work days will be posted at sorbaatlanta.org – even if you aren’t a member, check it out and get involved!
