It seems mountain bikers may be wearing out their welcome at certain trails around the US this summer. In just the last 24 hours we’ve received requests from Virginia, Texas, and Georgia to remove mountain bike trail information from singletracks. Typically we receive such requests about once every three months or so.
In case you’re curious our policy has always been to update trail descriptions rather than remove them from the website entirely. This is so everyone knows the deal, including mountain bikers who had previously ridden trails that are now closed. In some cases we remove directions, in others we simply ask the requester to post a review and update the trail status to closed.
It’s always disappointing to get take-down requests and frankly we’re a bit surprised at the current volume given the huge strides MTB trail advocacy groups like IMBA have been making over the past few years.
Anyway, sorry for such a downer post on a Friday; I’ll make up for it with a bonus “happy” post later this morning 😉
