Watch: Transition Adds Carbon Smuggler to Lineup, Drops 2.3lbs

Transition has just announced a carbon-framed version of the Smuggler that drops 2.3lbs in weight.

Hot on the heels of December’s announcement of a carbon-framed Sentinel, Transition is rolling out a carbon version of the short travel Smuggler trail bike. Using carbon drops more than two pounds off the aluminum frame’s weight — now down to 6.5lbs for a medium frame with shock and hardware. The Carbon Smuggler — available Spring 2018 — is offered in the following configurations:

  • Frame and shock: $2,999
  • Complete with GX Build: $4,999
    • Fox suspension
    • SRAM GX Eagle 1×12 drivetrain
    • SRAM Guide R brakes
  • Complete with X01 Build: $5,999
    • Fox suspension
    • SRAM X01 Eagle 1×12 drivetrain
    • SRAM Guide RSC brakes

Since Transition revamped their entire line for 2018, the Carbon Smuggler carries over the geometry from the aluminum bike. Key stats on the Transition Smuggler include:

  • 120mm rear suspension
  • 140mm front suspesion
  • 66° head tube angle
  • 475mm reach (large)
  • 430mm chainstays
  • 340mm BB height

Like all of Transition’s new full suspension bikes, the Smuggler uses their Speed Balanced Geometry (SBG) concept with a slacker than average head tube angle paired with a shorter offset fork. Combined with a 40mm stem length, Transition claims riders get the best of both worlds: steering stability at speed, without feeling floppy on slower sections.
