Mountain Biking Brushy Hill
#264 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
Brushy Hill is an elaborate network of trails packed into a relatively small area. Brushy Hill encompasses two "hills" on either side of Union Run, each with multiple singletrack trails snaking up, over, across and underneath. A few doubletrack trails encircle and intersect the area and can be ridden as primary beginner trails or as connectors to more intermediate trails. In general, trails are well maintained and regularly cleared of debris. Climbs/descents are relatively short and punchy. Technical features are present on some of the more remote and/or higher trails. New trails are constantly underway. All in all, Brushy Hill is a fantastic after-work ride or short weekend jaunt. It's easy to get to, rarely crowded -- though it is used by runners, walkers, and hikers -- and rarely gets boring.

Starting from downtown Lexington, head south on Main St.to Thornhill Rd./State Route 251. Follow SR251 for roughly 2.5 miles. At a sharp left turn, continue straight onto Union Run and follow for 2 miles. The road will turn to gravel shortly after a sharp 90-degree left. The trailhead and parking lot are 200 yards down the gravel road.
