Thompson Park is a 3,500 acre forested park riddled with shared trails for bikers, hikers and horse riders. The rail bed of part of the historic Milwaukee to the Pacific railway runs through the middle of the park. The Beaver Ponds trailhead, the Pipestone Pass trailhead and the Blacktail trailhead are all within the park.
A nice loop starting at the Eagles Nest trailhead is to start with the Jon Gulch trail, then the Grading Camp Trail (steep, some pushing), then the Herman Gulch Trail, then the Crook Camp Trail, returning to Eagles Nest along the Milwaukee Road. Apart from the Milwaukee Road which is wide, almost flat, and almost straight (with tunnels) the other trails are back-country style singletrack. Don't expect technical features - these are two-way, shared trails.
There are rest rooms at the Eagles Nest trailhead as well as a large map board.
