The trail is made up of 3 loops. The longest loop is 4.something miles (the red paint dot on the trees, or just follow the bike tracks) and is the only loop open at this time due to storm damage this past year. The trail is extremely well kept and has some really good technical sections with some steep climbs and fast downhill features. The 3 loops are designated by different color paint throughout the trail and there are directional signs. The 2 longer trails loop back into each other and the smaller trail, so it's virtually impossible to get lost. Trail is located on a private farm and primitive camping is available. There are creeks that are fed by natural springs and sometimes you see wildlife such as deer, squirrels, wild turkeys and lots of types of birds. Over all it's a fun trail especially on fat bike in the rain or snow. Please see Old Place Mountain Bike Trail page on facebook for pictures and other info.
This trail is not very well taken care of. The majority of it is washed out roots and cut stumps. There is 2 creek crossings on bridges. The first is of metal and is ok, the second is made of a old picket fence that has Brocken and rotted away with nails ready to pop tires. The marking of the trail is not the best, several time you come to a t section and have to guess which way to go. If the trail is not covered with roots then it is with moss. There are steep climbs that you have to walk because you get no traction on the roots. Trail is not used other then by the possible make and his dog. Trail is better suited for hiking then mtb. My gps showed it at 2.37 miles. The only thing that was nice was the first part of the trail of riding through corn field.
Thank |Though short, this trail packs some pretty fun hoops and loops and requires a good bit of technical skill. The climbs and descents are for the most part are quick sprints requiring power and skill, especially on the first section of the trail. The middle stretches it out a little adding some long, less steep climbs, and just a touch of Warrior Creek style gully running from one side of the hill to the next. The furthest section of trail is not quite as exciting as the first two sections but is deceptively technical and comes out of the woods with speed onto a raw creek crossing (rock bridge) that is just deep enough to splash a little ice cold water on your feet and legs. The climb out back to the start is pretty much uneventful flat climb to one last steep climb right at the finish. This is actually well balanced though giving the rider a chance to rest before hitting the serious single track section at the beginning again (if doing another lap). My main thing is a trail has to be fun, challenging, but not a torture trip. This trail is overall fun to ride.
