Mountain Biking Ward Reservation
#66 of 223 mountain bike trails in Massachusetts
Not as technical as nearby Harold Parker, but great singletrack with some nice climbs up the three hills in the reservation: Shrub Hill, Boston Hill & Holt Hill (the highest point in Essex County), offering views of the surrounding area and the distant Boston Skyline. The Solstice Stones on Holt Hill is a nice place to stop for a breather. There's an extensive network of trails within the 700 acre reservation, which take a little planning to put together a good route but once you've ridden it a couple times you can find a good flow, which will likely include some doubletrack/fire road connections. Can be connected to HP for an even longer ride.

From Rt. 125 take Prospect Road east 1/2 mile to parking lot. $5 to park, free for Trustees members
This is a great place to mountain bike if Harold Parker is too difficult for you, but it isn't too easy either. If anything, the hills are more difficult than the rocks are, but there are even a few difficult rocks here and there. Look for Holt Hill, which is close to the parking lot for a breathtaking view of Boston, and if you are walking, definitely check out the boardwalk. Overall, I would not consider this a place for newbies, but if you want to up your skill level, check it out.
