Mountain Biking Upper Wilson's Ridge aka 21 Jumps
#218 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
This is predominately a descent with small, punchy rises. Fast, flowy berm turns, lots of little jumps, rocks, roots, some tight, techy tree sections and overall just a blast. Main section of trail comes out on Schoolhouse Ridge Rd. Continue left on Schoolhouse Ridge Rd. for about 100 feet and look for yellow blaze trail to the left to get back on Upper Wilson's Ridge trail for the final descent. Strap in and prepare for a jump fest as jump after jump rises to greet you and the trail gets ever steeper. Trail comes back to Schoolhouse Ridge Rd. at the intersection with Hwy. 90 (dirt road) just past the gate. Go right to access other trails or to go back to Mortimer, NC.

Accessed at the top of Edgemont Rd. Look for a dirt pull off with Forest Service gate (usually closed) and a field beyond. Trail starts to the right.
Post-Hurricane Helene report: Portion above the Schoolhouse Connector is clear except for a typical amount of leaves for this time of year and as fun as ever! However, below the connector, the trail has not yet been cleared and there was a lot of nasty debris making it impossible to ride straight through. I guess most folks would rather go down Schoolhouse. ; )
Thank |I tried to cheat on the uphill by going up Schoolhouse Ridge Rd and using the Schoolhouse Connector to get to this trail, but the connector was no joke. So, a strenuous ride (or hike!) up, but a lovely view of Grandfather Mountain from the top and a moderately technical and very fun trip down over the humps that used to be jumps. Remote, but worth it!
