Mountain Biking Busing Forest
#132 of 171 mountain bike trails in North Island
Busing Forest is the wild west ghost town of mountain bike parks. The trails are not graded, they are not always signs to guide you, sometimes the trails cross each other, and you'll meet some really crazy downhill structures. Don't go exploring unless you have at least grade 4 skills. The trails are old-school and beyond!
There is a good chance you won't see a single tyre mark due to the more recent layer of pine needles!!! The locals have deserted Busing Forest in favour of nearby Mangamohe Forest. The blackberry and gorse are encroaching in places. And that's a shame because there is a certain magic in this old network. The track builders were crazy downhill riders who couldn't help putting in the whoopee stuff.

Head south out of New Plymouth on highway 3 for 10km, turn right into Kent Road and follow it for 2km then turn right into Scout Road. There is a little car park at the end of Scout Road after less than a kilometre.
Busing Forest is getting very tired but I quite enjoyed my few hours exploring the trails - there is some interesting technical riding, usually with your nose heading down. And there is a certain satisfaction in having survived it - it was wet and very greasy when I rode it.
