Mountain Biking Lost Lake Trail

****   Add a review
#259 of 1,383 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#2,303 in the world

This trail can be ridden either direction but is best from east to west. It is consistently rocky either direction and there's more hike-a-bike east to west, but those spots are short rather than the long rideable uphill slogs going west to east. The eastern trailhead is also much higher in elevation. The drawback there is that it is much harder to reach the eastern trailhead. The trial can be done as an out-and-back, or as a loop incorporating a lot of dirt road and other area trails, including Buffehr Creek and the North Trail.

Getting there
To reach the eastern trailhead, begin at the intersection of the North Frontage Road and Red Sandstone Road and follow Red Sandstone Road up the hill. At the fork with Lost Lake Road, take the Lost Lake fork onto FS 786. As the road continues, it gets rougher and a high clearance vehicle is recommended. There are a myriad of jeep trails in the area and it can get confusing, so it helps to have a good map or GPS to find the trailhead.

To find the western trailhead, simply stay on Red Sandstone Road. About nine miles up there will be a large sign with some parking denoting the trail.
