A winter scene featuring a snow-covered bike trail winding through a forest of bare trees. On the right side, part of a fat tire bike is visible, parked next to the path. The surroundings are serene, with a layer of snow blanketing the ground and some fallen branches scattered along the trail. South March Highlands mountain bike trail.

Trails are a lot of fun with nice technical Rocky section on the back side. Best signage system in Ontario very easy to follow.

Stuck to mostly west of Terry Fox drive . Narrow trails packed down by snow shoes and hikers with plenty of offshoot other snow trails . Deep snow each side if you have to put a foot down . Main area was hard packed with a slippery top crust

Apparently Ottawa has had a full month of daily rain that makes for a muddy trail even when on rocks . Wet areas everywhere with mud and out of control mosquitos.

Narrow smooth path well of compacted snow by fat tires, snow shoes and hikers . Fresh snow covered some icy sections in Pwt. A completely different scene from the rocky areas usually found

The South March Highlands is a network of trails that have been in the works for over 10 years. In recent years the local mountain bike club entered into a stuartship agreement with the city allowing for the addition of signage and for the trails to be identified as "mountain bike trails".

These trails are are very technical with a large range of rock features. There are some man made bridges crossing some ponds and swamps. The network has been designed as a stacked loop with the trails near the trail head being rated easier than those farther in. The majority of local riders ride these trails with medium to long travel full suspension bikes. Club rides are every Thursday evening from mid may till early Nov depending on the weather and trail conditions. Very popular for fat biking once there is a good base of snow.

Local club web site is www.ottawamba.org where you can find details and local trail maps.
