This route begins directly across Hwy. 203 from McDonald's. Park in the "day-use" area of Shady Rest Campground. Follow the paved bike path 0.2 miles, then cross Shady Rest Road. There is a kiosk with a map of the Knolls Loop and surrounding trials. The route follows dirt roads with numerous side roads and variations. Most of the roads in this area loop back into each other or to the Sawmill Cutoff Road, the Mammoth Scenic Loop or Hwy. 203 at some point.
