The Peterson Creek Trail #293 is 5.9 miles long and climbs about 1,700 feet. It starts from Forest Service Road # 5398 and ending at the junction with the Alpine Trail #7. The trailhead is accessible from 7/1-11/30, otherwise there is an additional 2 miles that must be walked on a closed road. This trail has great views of the Swan Lake area and the Flathead Valley with partial views of Flathead Lake available within the first 2 miles of the hike from the trailhead. The trail then winds through the forest, an old burn area, sidehills along some steep terrain, and finally goes through a pass near the ridge. The trail is open for the following uses: hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. Motorcycle trail riding is only allowed from 7/1-11/30. This trail is closed to 3 or 4 wheeled ATVs and larger OHV vehicles. source: fs.usda.gov
