Mountain Biking Pony Express Trail and Lovers Leap

Could be done as a loop by someone, but most commonly done with a drop-off at fire-road and pickup in Kyburz. Trail is easily followed and is remote and scenic. No real technical areas unless you want to try and ride the hike a bike up to lovers leap. First split is easily seen lower split is Pony Express, upper is Lovers Leap, take upper, get to summit, stare at the view, and then plummet down the backside to Strawberry Creek Rd. Ride the road to Hwy 50 cross and pick up trail on opposite side, head west on fun single track that follows the road, always take the forks that keep you closest to the Hwy to stay on trail. Easy to get off trail in the logging areas N of Hwy 50. Trail is long but incredible fun, not sure why its not a destination ride. My whole trip down on a weekend never passed another bike. Several thousand feet of elevation drop along trail but don't be fooled, still some decent climbing along the route.

Rider questions

Q: what is the best time of year to ride in tahoe, and would it be possible to ride now with a normal mounting bike
A: Spring and summer are the best times fall could work depending on weather/temp. High altitude so summer can be got bit this trail is fairly well covered. XC bike will work for this trail, descent from lovers leap could be a bit sketchy.
