Approximately 100 yards west of: 1901 Hasam Rd, Moon Township, PA. Parking lot with porto-John Parking also available at end of Downing Drive or at the end of Nike Rd, no porto-johns at those locations however.
Really fun trails with narrow singletrack and great flow. Hemlocks is my new favorite local trail (riding it down toward the Cave trail).
Thank |I don't feel like I can give a star rating to this system since I only experienced it once and it was really muddy. HOWEVER, it seemed like it was going to be really cool when dry and the climbing is manageable enough to make the downhill payoff worth it!
Thank |It is a fun, flowing park with some good hills to get your work in and downhills that will make you smile.
Thank |A much needed trail system for the Moon area, continuing improving, currently added more single track trails to an aproximate 10 miles
Thank |I too recently ventured out to Moon Townships latest trail system in Hollow Oak Land Trust's Montour Woods Conservation Area. This is located near Pittsburgh and the airport area. The trails have just been built by a local volunteer group this summer.
I found that starting at Hassam Road (1901 Hassam Rd, 15108) and going out the Oil Well Trail, coming back Meeks Run Trail, and up the Powerline Trail is the best route to take. Especially to enjoy major descents on other trails. Each time I visit, I see continuous improvements to the trail.
By doing the Nike Loop and Oil Well trail each (including reverse direction), I totaled 8.5 miles. For a map of the trails: http://www.hollowoak.org
Thank |Snuck out of work for a long lunch to ride this new network of single track trails. This land has a lot of potential and I would like to go back to try some other trails as I ended up on the Hemlock or "Hell Lock" trail which is a very serious uphill.
Also road on Meek's Run trail and another, but forget the name. Overall, the trail and property have a lot of potential, though being a very new trail it is quite muddy in many areas with some nasty loose rocks (decent sized) that are on the trail, under leaves.
With some time this trail network will get quick and I will be back.
Thrifty - thanks for the layout of how this track is best ridden!
