Mountain Biking Ester Dome Singletrack System
#16 of 65 mountain bike trails in Alaska
In my opinion, this is some of the sweetest and cleanest singletrack between the Kenai Penninsula and interior Alaska. It comprises three, bi-directional loops, two of which (outer and inner), connect to form a rough figure eight, totaling approximately 11 miles of windy, superbly banked switchbacks traversing the birch-laden hillside. In addition, the so- called Technical Trail adds another mile of tight, technically challenging loop of rooty - cursed switchbacks which will test your balance, timing and confidence. Sehr Jah! Though seemingly lacking in mileage, this system will keep you intrigued for as long as you can hold out.

Take Sheep Creek Road to Ester Dome Road (located at the same turnoff as Goldstream Sports), and climb about two miles up the road. On the left is a small but distinct parking area with room for about 6 - 8 vehicles; the trailhead is at the uphill side of this parking area.
This a great trail. I am a over 50 intermediate rider. I would call the trail more challenging aerobicaly than technically. I started the ride thinking I will take the 6.3 orange trail, well after a bit I decided on the 3 mile yellow trail and that was enough for me. I also tried the blue and green trail a bit more challenging but very short. The has been a lot of rain here this summer and trial was still dry. And nary a single mosquito.

Nice flowing single track. Multiple loops of various lengths.
Thank |Well maintained trail. The trail is decently marked and is a great workout. It has a good balance of climbing and descending with some flat spots at the bottom of the trail.
