This ride follows mostly singletrack w/ a couple short sections of highway and
about 3 miles of gravel road and some two track.
Starting from May Creek Campground, ride back to the highway and up to
Sheep Creek. There is a singletrack to the left just as you enter Sheep Creek.
Follow this trail about a mile and it drops down to Trail Creek Road.
Go right on the road and ride it about 2 miles to Elk Creek. Follow the road up
into Elk Creek. When the two track bears right to a primitive camping area, go
left and get back on an old two track. After this look for signs across the large
meadow. This sign marks the trail and the trail is excellent once you find it here
after the creek crossing.
Elk Creek Trail climbs gradually for a few miles then hits an old road. Go left on
this road and follow it to the Hogan Creek Trail. Then descend on the Hogan
Creek Trail back into Trail Creek and the road.
Go left on the Trail Creek Road and then right to Hogan Cabin. At the cabin go
left on the Shoofly Trail. This trail is tough to follow at first, just follow the edge
of the larger meadow south. If you look south you can see a low pass in the
ridge beyond the meadow and the Shoofly Trail goes there. Near the end of the
meadow you should see some Blue trail markers on the trees. Go right leaving
the meadow and follow the Blue markers as they lead you back on to good
singletrack.
Keep heading south on the Shoofly Trail. When you lose the trail just look for
those Blue markers. If you can't see the trail or Blue markers, just follow the
drainage. Once over the little pass and in Shoofly Creek the trail stays mostly
on the left side of the small valley.
At the end of Shoofly Creek, go left on the twotrack and follow it to the
highway. Go right on the highway, then the next left to Cabinet Creek
Trailhead. Here again, look for the Blue markers and follow them. The trail is
not so obvious at first but becomes so and is a really good trail. It climbs up and
onto a ridge after a mile.
The ridge tops out then meets the May Creek Trail. Go left here and descend.
Once the trail drops to the May Creek bottom, stay on the left side of the creek.
Again, the trail disappears from time to time, just stay on the left side of the
creek bottom and parallel the creek if there is a question.
After May Cabin the trail gets more defined and takes you straight back to the
Campground.
