Mountain Biking Ponderosa Loop

***   Add a review
#516 of 1,395 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#5,422 in the world

This loop at the top of Heil Valley Ranch is similar to the other nearby trails—rocky, but fun, with good views. This might be the rockiest part of Heil Valley. There's an amazing overlook area, though, that makes it all worth it. Stop there and check out the view!

I rode this loop after riding up the Wapiti “connector” trail. I captured GPS for this specific loop to submit to the site. The overlook is nice. You can see Hall Ranch. The trail is pretty rocky – even rockier than the other parts of the trail system. But it wasn’t that long (2.64 miles according the GPS) so if you’re from the local area and haven’t rode it then give it a shot just to check it off of your list. If you’re visiting from out of town then try this trail system (Heil Ranch) from the Picture Rock trailhead on the north side. If after you pass the silo and you think its too rocky then you can turn around and head back to the TH. Picture Rock TH to the Silo is a 5 star ride IMO but the rest of the trail system isn't as enjoyable (except for descending Wapiti which has some epic singletrack thanks to local trail maintainers). 49/Trek Superfly FS*

While it's not as exciting as Wapiti or Picture Rock, this is a good trail for getting your workout in. If the ascent isn't enough for you, a spin around this loop will get your heart pumping, and it gives you a bit of a break before going back down. Be prepared to be jostled around by rocks.
