A serene forest scene featuring tall pine trees with patches of sunlight filtering through the branches. The undergrowth is lush with green grass and wildflowers, while a dirt trail meanders through the trees. Some trees show signs of damage, with brown patches on the bark, indicating past events like forest fires or disease. Elk Chase #1 (surveyor Park Tr) mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Elk Chase #1 (surveyor Park Tr)

****   Add a review
#63 of 255 mountain bike trails in Wyoming
#5,455 in the world

This trail used to be part of the White Pine downhill mountain biking trails. You will see blue diamonds posted throughout the trail. It is an old pack trail, it starts out going gradual uphill through trees with a rocky trail into a large park, the trail continues to go left (east) towards the wilderness boundary, you will come to fence post at the top of the hill go right if you want to do the steeper trail (elk chase #2) if not continue on the main trail, it will weave around some meadows up to the left, there is some deadfall and a bog to ride around. The trail is a little overgrown in some sections. Once you cross the bog you will ride into the trees and the trail gets smoother, wider, and more well worn. You will get to a fork, there is a trail sign that points to the left (better trail) GO RIGHT towards the less worn trail, you will find yourself on a downhill trail that looks like an old road, that has nice whoops and zigs zags down the mountain. There are several trees that haven fallen across so be alert. When you get to the bottom, you will cross another small bog and be at the bottom of the ski area and will follow a two-track out and come out at the charilift.

Getting there

From Pinedale take Fremont Lake Road which turns into Skyline Drive to White Pine Ski Area about 10 miles, turn into the ski area park in the far side of the lot closest to the lodge. This is the bottom of the trail. Leave a car.
Drive back onto to the main road turn right and continue on up to Elkhart Park Trail Head another 6 miles or so. Pass the guard station and turn at the next right which is the trailhead parking. The trail actually starts behind the guard station. Follow the two track behind the guard station to the garage, the trail starts behind the garage.
