The first, and only, legal mtb trails in the city of Athens on public property.
While the property size limits the amount of trails that can be laid in the
area, the terrain is perfect for getting your tires dirty. Master plans will
eventually have this park linked to the Oconee River Greenway. Right now
there is only a 1.5 mile loop but work should begin soon on phase two and
extra miles. For the time being, the trail is best done in multiple laps or as
part of a larger "urban dirt ride" connecting some of the other well known
bootleg trails in the area.
I rode Trail Creek Park today, my first time (used to be road bike rider), and enjoyed it. Trail is a little narrow in some areas, which means if two riders approach from opposite directions, one will have to dismount to let the other pass. Be careful if it's you - there is an abundance of poison ivy. The trail is mostly in the shade, lots of bumps and dips, twists and turns. I am sure I did not ride all the trails, and will definitely go again.
Thank |This is a great, well maintained park... it has beginner trails and also has more advanced(funner) trails... I can't rightly give it a five because I am just getting into mountain biking and it is the only trail I have hit so far... but it is definitely a fun course with nice technical areas and also some pretty nice jumps if you choose to use them... or you can just flow through... I would definitely recommend this course if you are just starting out because it will let you know whether you want to keep mountain biking or not... just make sure you look at the map posted up... because some of the trails are one way and also this lets you know which trails are more advanced than the ones you want to stay off of until you are ready
Thank |Two-way traffic and noisy freeway really ruined the ride. We were dodging people left and right. If you don't live nearby, this is not worth the drive. Trail itself was on the easier side of intermediate.
Thank |This park is quite fun. There are trails for everyone. There are two trails that are a more for advanced riders. Trails are also marked pretty well. After you finishing riding, if its summer, you can go check out the splash pad located at the center of this park.
Thank |Great downhill trail runs. The cross country is a little short but still a good trail for the area.
Thank |This is a great little trail system. It's flowy and fun with some optional jumps and rock drops. "Widespread" is very short but intense. The second time I went down it I ended up in the ICU, but I don't fault the trail for that. The green, blue, and orange trails are beginner/kid friendly but watch out for the couple optional side legs on the blue and orange if you're just getting started.
Thank |The trails were beginner friendly, flowy, and very fun . There were obstacles to make things more challenging or you could go around them. The orange trail was intermediate level. Good berms and what I call ditches where you go down a drop then back up over a bank. I did lose my direction here so I may have missed some stuff. If ever back in this area I will definitely do these again.
Thank |Pretty sweet little trail system in Athens. There are some really nice features throughout the trails including rocks, rollers, and jumps. The two one-way downhill runs are quite fun with the one on the left (Widespread) having some jumps that I wasn't brave enough to do. Drive-By Truckers is best done counter clockwise and can be accessed (along with Widespread and Panic) by entering the trail from the left side of the main parking lot next to the football field. Although there's only like 4 or 5 miles of trails I ended up riding 11 miles. Definitely recommend riding here if you're in the area.
Thank |Love trail Creek. They have done a great job of adding features without having much elevation to work with. Beginner friendly but fun for the advanced crowd as well
Thank |I enjoyed riding this trail system and it provides a wide range of learning opportunities. There are technical obstacles but most have bypasses to allow a beginner to get through. The only down side is that the trail is two-way traffic (except specific downhill areas) and this leads to multiple potential interactions with other riders if you are not careful. Great location and I plan to continue riding this trail often.
Thank |Rode thus weekend before the game. Enjoyed the ride well marked there are 3 sections which are one way so watch for that. Ill be back next game
Thank |Always a pleasure riding here!
Thank |This is a great set of trails right in Athens. The new improvements add enough riding mileage to make for a good day of riding if you do a couple loops. It's easy to repeat the true downhill sections as well. Nice variation of obstacles and not too much climbing throughout. I am a big fan!
Thank |For being right in Athens, this trail is sick! The easy trails can be enjoyed by beginner and Advanced riders alike as there are some hidden jumps. A lot of nice berms, jumps, and rollers placed around on every trail but Green. The two full length downhill only trail are a blast. With huge tabletops, regular jumps, and steep pitches these downhill trails are awesome. My only compliant is that they are to short. The red Georgia clay is like concrete when dry but it takes a bit longer to dry. The trails on the other side of the bridge and road are nice cross country rides too. Overall it has some of the best variety of any trail I've been on east of the Mississippi. Very impressive for being in an urban area. Any rider will love these purpose built trails. There are also now at least 5 miles of trails there probably more.
Thank |The locals in Athens are doing some great things here!. Downhill section is setup nice where a beginner could roll through it or an expert could get all the air they would want. then the rest of the trails are just nice flowing singletrack with some little jumps thrown in and a few rock sections. not rooty at all in any part that I could remember. Not really sure on the berms section going uphill from the greenway behind the ball fields, it seems like that section and the downhill jumps both ride best from the top of the parking lotdown in either direction so it seems hard to make a legitimate loop. Like you ride down from there to the street and then take the road into the parking lot back to the trailhead to take the other side down? Oh well its all good however you ride it, just don't ride up the jump section, that could turn ugly if some one is coming down wide open!
Thank |Great trail, glad I was able to visit! I expected a small loop by the description, but we rode 5 miles and barely passed over any spots twice. We couldn't find a map onsite, hopefully someone more familiar with the location can post one. I counted three loops, two were intermediate and one easy. The trail is bidirectional, so be watchful for other riders coming uphill.
Thank |We started at the entrance in the north corner of the parking lot, which is an intermediate portion including banked turns and 3-5 foot slopes. The beginner trail can be accessed from the Beltline.
I had the privilege to ride with one of the locals that has been volunteering time to improve and build upon this trail and what a great job they have done. Although short, there is plenty of fun and adventure along this trail that is beginner friendly but also has obstacles, drops and a short but really fun downhill section to satisfy the advanced riders.
Thank |Awesome single track! The downhill section with the new upgrades is awesome. I can't wait for the whole trail to be finished.
Thank |Good fun. The tacks are clear. You can go through the different loops. I enjoyed the series of technical difficulties. Excellent for beginners to get used use your bike and the turns and ups and downs.
Thank |Very fun and easy to navigate. Pretty easy, climbs are not a challenge by any means. Has some cool jumps here and there and an awesome section of berms coming from the top of the trail.
Thank |
