Mountain Biking Stringers Ridge

****   Add a review
#18 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
#734 in the world

Tight twisty singletrack. Good climbs and bomber descents. Keep an eye out for the ever elusive " Ghost Fox". He tends to appear at the most inoppurtune times, often sending bikers careening over embankments or flying wildly over their handlebars as they try to avoid this ghostly apparition.

Great flowing trail system in a well maintained urban park. A couple of demanding climbs are the only technical aspect to the ride. Bonus points for one-way travel and for giving me the option to bike over from the place I was staying in town. I’ll be back next visit for sure.

Surprisingly fun and neat trails considering their location. Well sculpted into the terrain and good opportunities for speed. Quite smooth as well. It's a short ride but quite enjoyable.

The last three times I have ridden at Stringers I have almost hit hikers or dogs not on leases going the OPPOSITE way of the directional flow. Today I went over the bars trying not to hit a dog not a lease with owner 30 yards away. Now I am off to get stitches. Not riding here anymore.

Great trail and very underrated! Don't let the low milage discourage you, this trail is a fun as you want to be. Short, sometimes steep climbs are immediately rewarded on the back side with flowing descents. The trail seemed to flow well and appeared maintained and well marked. Can be ridden as a loop from two different trailhead. Trail is easily ridden in / out from downtown Chattanooga, a huge plus for me being able to leave the car behind.

Its Short but in less than an hour you do over 900 feet of climbing. The speeds you can attain here suggest having a good braking system. Its a great little gem. Id like to say in a way its the best trail ive been to. Raccoon is really dangerous. I mean lets be honest im from Michigan nothing in Michigan holds a candle to Coon but Stringers reminds me if Michigans flow. Fast and flowing yet the climbs at Stringers are a son of a beesting. I think next trip i make enterprise south and biology trails will be solid

Great little trail, a hidden gem in downtown Chattanooga. Short and intense with great views and proximity to the northshore area.

    Surface:
Hardpacked, Loose over hard, with loose sections. Tight banked turns and great flowy sections. 50/50 climbs and descents, a physically demanding trail. Climbing goes from punchy and steep with tight upward turns, to a few long extended climbs. Luckily it is very balanced and your effort is handsomely rewarded.

    Tech level:
Few rocks roots and other obstacles. Great learning tool for beginners, but plenty of speed and tight turns to reward skilled riders. Very little runoff distance, so if you miss your turn expect to take a trip down the ridge!

    Signage:
Trail map is useful and the trail is marked decently well at each intersection. The signs include the direction of the day for walkers and bikers. (they go opposite directions)

    Amenities:
New bathroom facilities were just added though they may not be open yet, usually a portable toilet nearby. Close proximity to Suck Creek Cycle and other stores should you need anything.

    Noteworthy features:

The pump track was just completed and is a lot of fun. Now if they could just keep the grass mowed!

    Other notes:

The trail is mostly frequented by hikers (at least when I ride). There are quite a few blind turns, so both parties should be on the lookout for one another.

Fun rolling trail. I only came up with about 3 miles on the longer loop not anywhere near the 8. But I did two loops and had a smile on my face the entire time. No big climbs but some fast declines with fun switchbacks.

Fun place to ride. It may be more for beginners to intermediates like me. But there are some quick trails and also some trails with good climbs and switchbacks

While staying at the Crash Pad I decided to ride to this trail which is located just on the north bank of the Tennessee River. This trail did not disappoint! The climbs gave way to many awesome decents that were flowy and smooth with some small jumps. It was clear to me that the trail builders put a lot of thought and effort into making this trail something that many levels of mountain bikers could enjoy.

Great ride when you only have a short amount of time. This trail is still young and being developed. You can tell it was designed to be quick and challenging. There is some challenging parts and you need to stay on your toes. There are some parts that are tricky because there are parts with gravel. You will find hikers so be careful when bombing down sections.

Pretty good trail for locals. Short. Less than 3.5 miles. It is Flowy. Directional depending on day. I wouldn't drive out of your way to ride. Much better options close to Chattanooga. Raccoon or Tanasi

This trail system just recently reopened after a complete rework by SORBA. While is is a small trail system, it packs in a variety of terrain types, from easy rolling trail to steep, tight switchbacks that will get your heart racing.

A lot of the trails are dug out of the side of the ridge, and therefore have some substantial drop offs that caused me to pucker up a couple times due to my overconfidence. The downhill sections with the drop offs right next to the trail are quite exhilarating, at least for me, with plenty of opportunities to catch air and just ride as fast as you can. I don't know if it will change with time, but right now the trails are mostly free of roots, but with use that could change.

The uphills suck. But what goes up must come down, and that makes these trails worth the burning leg muscles.

You can cover everything here in an hour and a half. But it's great location just a few minutes downtown makes it a great option for people after work who want to get a ride in before they get home. I'll be visiting these trails many times in the future.

Rode this trail system yesterday, great place to train. Lot of climb, very little flow. Sorba is working it right now so in the future should be alot better. Will ride again I'm sure.

Right now this place isn't worth it, but SORBA is planning on building some great purpose-built MTB trails here. Once completed, this will be a great place for close-to-town riding. At the moment, though, the trails aren't all that fun to ride.

Trails are pretty beat up after all the storms here in area. All the technical aspects have been damaged by fallen trees. Place needs work.

Basically another part of Chattanooga's get to 100 miles of mtb trails. Pretty decent stuff. It can get rough and rocky on some of it. Not a fast flowy trail.
