Mountain Biking Tims Ford State Park
#105 of 202 mountain bike trails in Tennessee
singletrack trial starts at the end of the 1-mile paved trail behind the visitor center. The singletrack is configured as an out-and-back trail with a loop on the end. The trail follows the coves on the lake with several short dips at the back of each cove. This course is hilly with narrow sections cutting across the hillside.

from Winchester Square take hwy 50 toward Lynchburg. Follow signs to State Park. Right fork on Mansford Road. Park is on left 1/2 mile past marina. Park at the visitor center or the Marble Plains Baptist Church. From the visitor center ride the paved trail to the end (approx 1 mile trail starts on right (far left trail)
From the church the trail starts down the hill at the end of the road (trail goes right)

I can't say I liked this trail. It is all rooty and rocky. There was no flow, and very few parts where constant jarring from roots and rocks wasn't evident. It is a rarely used trail it seems for mountain bikes. I went on 4th of july weekend afternoon and ate about 3 dozen cobwebs - indications that the trail is not used a lot. There are other rooty trails that I really like. This was just boring, with virtually no change from beginning to end. Very easy to follow - its just one way out and back. Also, take the trail off the first parking lot, not the one behind the actual visitor building
Thank |Poorly marked. I got lost. I did the 14mls but it wasn't all that
Thank |The trail at Tims Ford State Park was not the best experience for my wife, friends and I. We drove up from Atlanta on The Friday before Labor Day. Arriving only to see the camp sites were on top of one another, no trees acting as buffer. The bathrooms were dated and not clean, only one showere and toilet. In fact someone missed the toilet in the men's room. It took a long time for someone to come and clean it up. When they did come. The effort was less than adequate. There were remnants left on the walls and the base of the toilet.
There was another bath house available it to was dated and dirty 4 showers and 3 toilets. In all 5 showers and 4 toilets for 52 campsites or avg family size 4 people 200 ish using them.
Okay enough about the sites and bathrooms. The main reason we went was for the MTB trails that the state parks site did a great job of selling. All be it a bait and switch. Then trails totaled 15 miles of there and back configuration, overgrown trials,SPIDERS WERE EVERYWHERE. So bad we turned around and rode out.
Stay away from here if you are a Mtb rider.
The park has the largest swimming pool in all of the TN. Be it was built in the early 70's the pool was maintained well and a lot of fun because of the 12 foot diving board and the number of chairs surrounding it. The changing area and the building around it were in need of repair.
The Tims Ford State Park suffers from deferred maintains for the majority of the last decade. Sad but true.
The only pluses were the paved 11 miles of hike and bike trail that wand through the park to beautiful views of the lake. If you are a lake person this lake will wow. It's very clean and not much traffic, there are several quite coves. This lake is HUGE.
The park is in the middle of not near anywhere! There are no places to eat except the Blue Gill Grill on the lake in Telahoma or about 15 mins from the park. We asked where we could eat and were told it the best around. It's not! Had we know or been told we could of drove another 15 mins to the big town of Telahoma and had about anywhere we could think of to eat. We only found this out by using the GPs to find a Walmart. As we drove to it we were sad that we choose the Blue Gill Grill earlier.
Just a side bar: Arnold Air Force Base is located in Telahoma and has the number 2 rated trail in TN. Number 1 is Raccoon Mtb. Which afe only 30 min from Tim's Ford State Park.
On the way back to Atlanta my wife and I stopped to see the Raccoon Mtn. Camp ground because its only minutes to the afore mentioned number 1 Raccoon Mnt trail. Again we were disappointed. The campground is primarily for RV, pop up, and the like.
Thank |several short, steep hills and some fast short drops make this trail tough. Not technical, but a great workout for almost everyone. The Marble Plains loop, Overlook to church and back, is about 2 miles. From Church around the peninsula and back about 10 miles; about 12 miles to ride all the dirt as short as possible; to start at church and ride a complete out and back, which requires reversing at the peninsula divide, is 15 miles.
