Nothing really intermediate about it. 90% of the trails are almost completely rock. And if you're on dirt, it's also a rock garden. Ridden out there a few times, and if you're not in to that kind of riding, for me, it just wasn't fun. 30 minutes and I was drenched in sweat and frustrated. Unfortunately, this is just how it is riding in north east PA, no matter where you go. There are no, flowing trails, or climbs which aren't also technical challenges. So if you're in to working to get anywhere and like a challenge, then hey, go for it. If you're a beginner, or you aren't confident in your technical riding skills (they will be put to the test), then it might be best to stay away. It's good for what it is, but bad unless you really like almost falling off your bike trying to get over rocks on every pedal stroke!

Rode here for the first time, had a great ride despite popping a tire halfway in without tools or tube :( like ohers suggested, def not a beginners ride, lots of rocks but a really fun challenge of your up it. Definitely needs better marking but if you have an idea of where the lake is then trails perimeter it for the most part. I would suggest dropping a pin on google maps at your starting location and then intermittently check back your location with reference to your pin throughout your ride.
Was a great ride, could use more flow and better trail markings but will def come back for the technical aspect and challenge.

I love riding the moon. It has everything. It can be very technical at some points depending on what trail you find yourself on. I do agree it is hard to navigate sometimes but there are trails everywhere and it's just a big loop around the lake.

Very rocky and not well marked. Glad to find maps at the boarded up ranger office to guide us, but it was still hard to get around. Didn't find many smooth spots to gain a flow with speed, but maybe we weren't in the right spots. Cool to check out the terrain, vert different from my NC stomping grounds.

Fantastic typical technical rocky PA trail. I came from out of the area armed with a map but the trail is not easy to navigate if it's your first ride. If I had a choice I'd ride with a guide. I think the local mtb club could do a better job marking trails for sure. I ride trails that are just like these a few times a week so I'm not new to it but this trail was quite confusing and easy to get turned around on. Maybe not lost (unless you have zero clue how to find a road) but easily turned around.

Perfect mix of everything. Tons of different trails. You'll never get bored here. I sure could use a trail map though

My first real trail ride, not for beginners previously experience with BMX helped. Need to explore whole area to find nicest trail features. Recommend getting trail guide from office. Looks abandoned right now but there is maps in bulletin board. Look forward to going back once endurance is built up more.

This trail is awesome and reminds me Rock Lake or Nicolet Roche. If you like Rock gardens, this is the place, not for beginners though. Local volunteers put a lot of work in maintainice and it shows. Many wooden bridges and rocks to ride over.
The only thing is there's no maps around and some intersections are confusing at first. But once I got familiar with layout it's a pure joy to ride. Just keep riding around lake and won't get lost. So far it's the best trail I rode in PA.

My favorite place to ride. They have everything you can imagine. The trails are awesome and loads of fun. There are tons 2 pick from so you wont be stuck on the same thing over n over. They are very well maintained. Lots to do. The current Wednesday nite rides start @ 6 and everyone is super friendly. Everyone is willing 2 help out w/ whatever is needed.

I've been riding the trails at Moon Lake for some time, and they are fun. Some are pretty technical. Rocks, roots, switchbacks. elevations and downhills. Contrary to what old 666 says they are well taken care of. Anyone riding at the Moon in September had to realize that the area was totally flooded with tons of rain and a lot of wind that knocked many trees down in the park and on the trails. The guys did a great job clleaning up the mess . I've been there in September and October and aside from a little mud and a few leaves the trails are very rideable. Mud on trails in the Northeast in autumn is part of mountain biking. Again, great trails.

Rode these trails on Monday September 19th 2011. I had heard nothing but good things about these trails and couldn't wait to ride them. I was ( and my ride partner) very disappointed. It could be good. It could be GREAT. But I think the few people that do ride it can't take care of it.

Moon Lake Park MTB trail network is fast gaining a reputation as some of the sweetest well kept trails in the area, we even blow off the leaves on the weekends!
There are updated trail maps available at the park office, all the trails are marked with signs.
There is also a skills/trials section called the Deacon that will test your bike skills.
New trails are being added all the time, old trails are being groomed, added to and revamped constantly.
There is a Wednesday evening ride that starts at 6PM and is really growing, on a recent ride we counted over 40 riders on the trail in the evening! The rides break off into several groups depending on your skill level, everyone is welcome to show up and ride, just park outside the main gate, the gate is locked at 8PM, but we can ride after that and we do!
