Mountain Biking Grand Slam
#77 of 306 mountain bike trails in Oregon
This trail begins and ends within the Phil's Trail network. By itself though it is a great downhill run that is quite often overlooked by riders with the Whoops & Ben's being more popular routes. The Grand Slam is more technical than any others in this network and offers a greater challenge for the experienced rider.
At the upper end of this trail the forest is more dense and the trail tighter as it winds its way over rocks, through trees and along the edge of a small canyon for the first couple miles. After that the terrain flattens out quite a bit and there is an uneventful 2 miles through the woods. Just about the time you are wondering why you chose this trail it gets technical again in the form of rock gardens, drops, steeper grades, tight corners, etc. At intersection 15 stay right for Grand Slam or turn left to take VooDoo tr back up the mountain. The last mile or so the trail is squeezed between large trees and a rock wall creating some great technical riding, throw in a couple man made up & overs and you have a very fun ride. This trail ends at intersection 9, turn left and head half mile to intersection #7 at Phil's Trail- another 2 miles back to the main parking lot or- lots of options here, take your pick.

As part of the Phil's Trail network the Grand Slam is most easily accessed via other trails in this area. The closest parking to the upper end is located at mile 10.5 of highway 46 (to Bachelor Mt). Park on the south side of the road in a small lot just outside a FS gate (rd 171). Travel 50 yards up the highway and head north on the Storm King trail 2.2 miles until you reach FS Road 800, intersection 27 on the map. Ride down the road just a tenth mile and take the singletrack on the right paralleling the road, this is the beginning of the Grand Slam trail.
The more popular option is to park near the lower end at one of various places and ride one of the many routes in the network up to the Storm King tr and over to the Grand Slam.
