Mountain Biking Upper Ridge

****   Add a review
#267 of 549 mountain bike trails in North Carolina
#6,602 in the world

Located in the interior of the main loop, this trail circles the ridge. The singletrack is built tighter with sharper turns, and tends to limit your speed more than the other trails in the system. Watch out for those turns--they creep up on you!

Getting there
From the MacDonald's/ Huddle House traffic light in downtown Hiawasse (US 64 west), head out of town towards Hayesville. Turn left when you see the sign for Jack Rabbit Campground( US Forest Service), over the border into NC. As you come to a bend and can see the lake, the trailhead is on the left BEFORE THE CURVE with a sign" Jack Rabbit Mountain Bike and Hiking trails". It's in a grassy field. I drove past, but saw the sign as I passed it the first time.

A fun section of the Jack Rabbit Trails.

Upper ridge is one of the "technical" sections of the Jack Rabbit trail system. Once you ride it for yourself, you'll laugh at that statement. But it IS a bit more technical than the rest. A few log crossings thrown in for fun and one optional rock section help keep things fresh. I would have liked to have gotten a shot of the rock crossing but we hit it in the downhill direction and the flow was too nice to stop for a pic. Easily my favorite section at Jack Rabbit.* Review edited 3/14/2011
