Mountain Biking Big Rock Loop
#22 of 115 mountain bike trails in South Carolina
Big Rock Loop is 3.7 miles and connects to the Tower Loop at about the half way mark. It really feels like a sister trail to Tower as these two simply have a different feel from the rest of the trails at FATS. Big Rock is a bit more technical and aerobically challenging than the southern trails. It tends to make you work a little more but it still has sections with great flow just like its buddys to the south. Some people like to pack up the car and head back towards the southern parking lot if they want to ride Deep Step, Great Wall, Skinny, and Brown wave but you can ride to them on your bike just as easily.

From I-20 near Augusta, GA take SC Exit 1 (SC 230). Head north on SC 230 for about 5 miles. Turn left on Woodlawn Rd. Go approx. 4 miles, trailhead parking area for the southern trails are on the left. If you specifically want to ride Big Rock Loop, keep heading past this parking lot and make a left on Deepstep Rd. About 2-3 miles down Deepstep Rd, FS 661 (a gravel rd)will enter from the left. Turn up FS 661 and drive in until you reach the parking lot. You can also connect to Deep Step by bike if you ride back up Deepstep Rd towards Woodlawn. A connector entrance will be on your left.
