Mountain Biking Flying Squirrel
#34 of 403 mountain bike trails in Georgia
This trail is very similar to Copperhead gap, but with fewer technical features. Still, this is one of the more challenging trails at Chicopee. It is located within the outer loop, and junctions with White Tail at two locations and Copperhead gap at one.

I-85N to I-985, Exit 16-Oakwood/Dawsonville. Take a left/west off the exit ramp. Immediately turn right/north at the stoplight onto Frontage Road. Follow the little brown signs to Elachee Nature Center. There is a bike parking lot past the golf course.
Flying Squirrel has the best flow of all the trails at Chicopee. Some short climbs, nothing very challenging or technical. Trail is very well maintained. Overall it is a great trail and a fun ride.
Thank |Trail's in very good shape, my favorite trail at Chicopee. Some very fun, fast sections.
Thank |One of my favorite trails at Chicopee thus far. Challenging at times but will push you to want more as you ride. If you come to Chicopee you can't leave until you ride the Flying Squirrel.
Thank |This is a great trail and i would rate it a 5 but the maps that are on the trail are old and faded to were you cant see where the trails connect at and where the you are dot is so much so that my friend and i got lost.
There are also a lot more hills then described in other reviews and the hills are also steeper than discribed
If your not a local this trail along with the white tail trail can get very confusing and easy to get lost on
Thank |Wow, this is a really fun trail. I think it's the smoothest, buffest trail at Chicopee. I actually think this trail is easier than the outer loop (White Tail). A lot of good little climbs and downhills. This is a must-do trail at Chicopee.
Thank |Lots of fun. Climbs are just the right lenth be tough and then very rewarding. My favorite part.
Thank |You will be hard pressed to find anyone that doesn't think Ze Squirrel is the best trail at Chicopee. Get major flow on here...in either direction. Add Copperhead Gap to mix in your technical. Red Tail is an extra shot of flow.
Thank |Awesome loop at Chicopee. My favorite trail so far. Nothing too difficult. Just fast and fun.
Thank |Great Trail at Chiccopee. It's not the hardest, that's Copperhead. But the Squirrel gives you some nice jumps and gives you some challenge. I make sure I hit this trail everytime I'm at Chiccoppee
Thank |I agree with the other two reviews; this is the best trail at Chicopee. Very fun and has great flow to it.
Thank |This is probably the best trail at Chicopee! Great swoop and flow, some punchy climbs, and several entertaining trail obstacles to keep things interesting!
Thank |Flying Squirrel is my favorite loop of the Chicopee Woods trail system. Starting from either north section will have you flying down single track, bobbing between trees. I prefer the entrance near copper head, its feels more fluid and a tad bit tighter singletrack. The other way is very fun as well. Once you hit the bottom you have the option to jump onto white tail or finish the loop and head back up Flying Squirrel. I recommend heading back up Flying Squirrel and finishing up the back half of White Tail.
