Mountain Biking Lake Carl Blackwell Trails
#11 of 64 mountain bike trails in Oklahoma
There are 5 trails of varying difficulty, they do crossover occasionally, so you can switch halfway through if you like. Decent maps are available in the Lake Store. There are some fun, fast drops and technical climbs. Bottoms of the mini canyons tend to hold water, even months after a rain (it is by a lake after all). There are a few sandy spots, but not bad. I prefer the Orange trail and the Blue is great for a longer, more technical ride.
My only complaint is that the trails are shared with Equestrians, so there is one sections where the trails all come back together near the trailhead which is basically a dirt road through a prairie and if it's rained recently, the horse tracks will beat you to death. Hang to the edges and you can ride it out. ;)

The entrance to Lake Carl Blackwell is approx. halfway between I-35 and the city of Stillwater, OK on Highway 51. (9 miles west of town) There're signs before the turn off, and a large-ish wooden sign on top of some large rocks on the hill, North of Highway 51. Just follow the road, stop at the little ticket booth, or continue on and pay at the lake store. You'll have to park just past the Lake Store by the Oklahoma State University Boathouse, then ride up the road (you passed the trailhead on the way in).
new little skills park and new trail cutting in the fall

Thank |the Stillwater crew gets this little gem up to like 10 miles and will vote best trail in the state of Oklahoma- I do like some great hardpack with boostie bits - As a rider like it all so can swing my vote to a crazy black techie trail as well but this trail is something u can ride weekly and not tear up rider and bike:)
Thank |pre road the TDD track this year like last year and this is a top five trail in the state - hard pack goodness with fun bit - duel slalom and floline.
Thank |great camping facilities and great singletrack vibe
one of my fav"s and now cleaned out for upcoming TDD race - get some!
Thank |Good trail system. Some spots cross over with equestrian use. Most is marked for bikes only, but eh...it happens, so some spots tend to be a little more beat up. Low spots do hold water and moisture but it is near a lake and water table, so that is expected. Spring rain brings lots of growth, so it can be a bit overgrown if left unattended. It is on the Tour De Dirt race circuit this year, so I think there is more attention given in the recent months. Visit the lake store/park ranger for maps and a check in, plus a daily usage fee. Trail starts at parking lot on the right near the r.v.. trailer park/fishing spot/ bridge on main road, just about 500 to 600 meters from entrance gate. Has a fun dual slolum run at the end of the trail. Fairly marked well with signs, some spots are super tight and offer challenges while at speed. Great little burn and jump sections. Something for everyone! Some short climbs that are challenging if wet. Overall the trail is not overly difficult but will get your heart rate moving. Watch out for ticks/snakes and poison ivy! Close to McMurtry Lake trails so don't forget to hit them as well when in the area!
Thank |Never been here until today but I wouldn't recommend you go unless you are in a horse. Due to all the rain this spring the trails are anywhere from 18" - 5ft of weeds and grass. I attempted about 2.5 miles of the blue trail and had a very hard time locating the trail through the weeds and when I did many portions we so deeply rutted I kept popping out of my clips as my feet struck the high edges of the ruts. Equine traffic makes steeper low area climbs pretty rough and difficult. Unless you have a buddy with a brush hog in front of you I would save your $5 and shoot up to McMurtry instead. I would like to see seperate equine trails so this would be a cool place to ride in years we don't have soo much rain.
Thank |I like the choice of lengths/difficulty available. Plus it's really close to my house in Stillwater, OK. Fun for the beginner to intermediate rider. Wooded areas with switchbacks and quick downhills and some technical climbs.
