Mountain Biking Lake Carl Blackwell Trails

*****   Add a review
#11 of 64 mountain bike trails in Oklahoma
#1,862 in the world

There are 5 trails of varying difficulty, they do crossover occasionally, so you can switch halfway through if you like. Decent maps are available in the Lake Store. There are some fun, fast drops and technical climbs. Bottoms of the mini canyons tend to hold water, even months after a rain (it is by a lake after all). There are a few sandy spots, but not bad. I prefer the Orange trail and the Blue is great for a longer, more technical ride.

My only complaint is that the trails are shared with Equestrians, so there is one sections where the trails all come back together near the trailhead which is basically a dirt road through a prairie and if it's rained recently, the horse tracks will beat you to death. Hang to the edges and you can ride it out. ;)

Getting there
The entrance to Lake Carl Blackwell is approx. halfway between I-35 and the city of Stillwater, OK on Highway 51. (9 miles west of town) There're signs before the turn off, and a large-ish wooden sign on top of some large rocks on the hill, North of Highway 51. Just follow the road, stop at the little ticket booth, or continue on and pay at the lake store. You'll have to park just past the Lake Store by the Oklahoma State University Boathouse, then ride up the road (you passed the trailhead on the way in).
