Mountain Biking Cowiche Canyon

****   Add a review
#44 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington
#2,434 in the world

This is an easy beginner trail, nearly double-track wide that follows the flow of Cowiche creek, through the Cowiche Canyon. Bluffs line the ridge of the canyon and water flows year round. Beware of rattlesnakes, and in the summer months dehydration, as temps in eastern Washington hover near the 100's thru September.

Fun network of trails, the south rim trail was my favorite.

Good for all riders. There is lots of singletrack. Good for people who like to put miles in. If you come on weekend there will probably be a lot of trail runners. I would recommend to stay off of the wider main trail to avoid them.

Great network of trails above the canyon. The posted trail map doesn't show all of the trails that are there but a great time for an XC rider trying to get miles or just a fun family outing.

What a great trail! The main trail is 12.5 long and there are many other more difficult trails that lead up the hills. They are singletracks with lots or rocks and some drop offs and cliff edges. So make sure to Scott or out on the way up. One of the trails that is the most rocky and technical leads up to a local Vinyard where you can do wine tasting! Great place!

    UPLANDS TRAIL

There are many different entrance points to the Cowiche area.

On our second day of riding, we headed up the canyon and entered off of Scenic Road.

The "Uplands Trail" is mostly above the Canyon.

It has many singletracks as well as some wider trails made of some gravel, but mostly dirt and rock.

We road some singletracks, but it was a bit difficult for the kids. They enjoyed it, but preferred a bit more room, as this single track had a lot of brush to contend with.

    Highly recommended!

    WEIKEL ROAD ENTRANCE

    I am 46 years old, wife 40-something, daughter 10 and son 8.

We are not extreme sports people, and we are new to mountain biking.

This trip was the kids first time on gravel and dirt.

Our son fell/slid off his bike about 3 times, and got a little cut/bruised. HOWEVER, he loved it. And so did my daughter and wife.

There are many different types of trails here. The first one we did was what I consider the main trail that starts at Weikel Road, and is at the bottom of the canyon, and runs right over the Yakima River about 8-9 times. There are cool wooden bridges that you will cross, and seeing the water is really nice. The ride is very visually stunning, and pretty east. No big hills on this part of the trail. The gravel can make you slide around a bit so be careful. There were a couple times that we walked our bikes, because there were too many large rocks in the trail.

The second day, we did the "Uplands" trail, which is located off of Scenic Road, on top of the canyon. There you will find both single track trails, as well as the main Upland trail, that is somewhat double wide. We had a blast there too.

Highly recommended for all riders...great scenic, great trails...

This place is a combination of many trails. you can ride 5, 6 ,7 ,8 or the 12 miles listed. There is Motorcycle Bowl which is downhill with 2 jumps. there is Snakecoil, Radioflyer, Blueribbon, Brandywine. and many more as I am learning as well. Its a great place. Snakecoil is technical because it has tons of rocks. Many trials have sand traps on the corners. There is also a New area that is connect I plan to try sometime called Rockytop on the other side of summitview road.

It depends on if you go on the trails off the main trail, weather this area is a beginner or intermediate level. The uplands trail pushes the upper end of intermediate level. Steep switch backs combined with rocks.

Fun, Easy and convenient trail that is always in good repair. Some fun off shoots of the main trail, (legal ones) give the trail a bit of tech.
