Mountain Biking Hohenecken Trails
#8 of 151 mountain bike trails in Germany
The trail starts behind the big church you will see trees with the trail #'s on them. At the back of the church you will see some stairs, go up the stairs. You will follow the signs for trail 3 and 5. You will bike uphill for .57 miles, you will come to a crossroads, to go to the Castle ruins, go left for about half of a mile. It is pretty ruins. All of the trails are very fun, but I stayed mainly on trail 5. The trail has some very SWEET singletrack and some crazy doubles. Plenty of chances to jump rocks and get some small airtime. The singles are short but the best that I have found in the area! At the end of the first single you come to which is about half of a mile, watch out at the end, there is a drop off. The second one I came to was very tight, curvy and in between a lot of small trees. This trail Rocks! I will definately ride this trail again!!!

Coming from Kaiserslautern to Hohenecken, in town limits, take the first left onto Landolf strasse, at the fork veer right onto Burgherren strasse. You will then see a big church on the left. Turn left into the driveway, you will see a gravel parking area on the right. Trail starts behind the big church after some stairs.
Went there the other day for my first ever actual single track ride. I was so much fun. I read a few reviews on here and tried to follow trail 5. When I got to the top of the mountain, behind the ruins, there is trail 1, 5, and 3. They are in that order if you are looking from left to right with the ruins to your back. Trail 1 will take you straight down, no ruts, sharp turns, nothing. You can just catch a ton of speed. You will however come out on main road 47. Trail 3, I did not take, maybe next time. So, that just leaves trail 5. Trail 5 was interesting. You first go up about 50 meters and then it levels out. A few tech spots but nothing at all even hard. The problem that I had with trail 5 was when you get passed a few of the techs you don't see the trail anymore, or any markers for that matter. I just kept going with where I thought a trail would be. I found a small little kids park up there after a few minutes, really hard to miss. It took me about 30 minutes of walking up there to actually find the single track. If you are at the playground you will notice a trail right behind the sea-saw. Take that trail, take your first left and then again another left about 5 meters in. You will instantly come upon the single track. As far as the track goes its about 30 seconds. When you get to the "end" of the single track take a right. You will go on a flat single track for about 80m. You will see another single track straight to your left after the bend (there will be a tree stand). Again, nothing tech, a few roots but nothing major. After the second single track it's all double from there. Take a right, and then your first left. It will lead you out to road 47. Take a left on the road and keep going down it till you see a tail head with a sign that saigs BURG ->. That is the bottom of trail 1. You can just walk up that and you are at the start again.
All in all for my first ever trail ride, I had a blast. Nothing too hard (except for the walk up!). I will keep going up there on a regular occasion to just work on some more basic skills.
Will post updates if I find anymore single track or to say how trail 3 was!
Thank |This was a nice trail to get away from the city. There is a lot of great scenery in the area. Most of the trail is not single track even though there are some single track trails out here. Most of the single track trails I found were when I crossed the road (K3) and the rail road tracks. There are a lot of trails I wanted to ride on but I was solo and didn't want to get hurt with no one to help me. There is not a lot of technical things on this trail so you will be fine if you are a beginner. I did about 15 miles just exploring the area. After you get finished riding make sure you hit the Burgschanke Hotel Restaurant (This is my favorite place to eat in the area). All in all I had a great time and will be back when the weather warms up with a partner.
Thank |Fantastic scenery when the trees are green.
Thank |This trail is awesome, one of my favorites! A fair bit of nice singletrack, good uphills and great downhills.* Review edited 2/16/2009
