A winding dirt trail through a dense forest of tall trees, with a patch of fallen leaves on the ground. A bicycle is partially visible in the foreground, resting on the side of the trail. The environment is lush with greenery, indicating a spring or summer setting. Bayview & Stouffville mountain bike trail.

Mountain Biking Bayview & Stouffville

*****   Add a review
#12 of 308 mountain bike trails in Ontario
#964 in the world

A large loop with many intersections within it. mainly smooth fire roads with logs and steep bits here and there, Sandy bits along a few section as well as . Try and run this as a clockwise loop. There is (was) an extreme section there but it changes from time to time.

Nice trails, first time riding. Trail marking is pretty much non-existing, very easy to get turned around. A lot of single tracks jutting in and out leading back to main trail which made it easy to figure out where to go once you have ridden the main trail in entirety. Parked right by Bethesda Rd trail start on street across the way. Overall, very nice trails, some technical with tight sweeps and roots but no major obstacles, only found one skinny to ride on. I liked it!

My wife and I stuck mostly to the lime stone walking path. Other than some scattered snow and ice the only thing that was a concern was some slushy conditions on the lower lying areas. Otherwise...great ride.

One will need to be conscious of fallen trees that may not have been there the last time the path was taken.
Other than that, the more I ride it the more I love it!

As I've said here before it's my default. I love Ravenshoe, King City, Uxbridge, 3 Stages, Dagmar but this palce is GREAT! 5 minutes from the LARGE parking lot on Bethesda Rd. my son and I spotted a huge pheasant. Then an hour later a couple of rabbits just shy of Yonge St. Then an hour and a half after that a full grown Doe. The deer in the area are quite used to having humans in the vicinity so they are wary but tolerant. Meaning, long observations of the wild life is possible.
    Enjoy this fabulous place.

This is my default. There is a parking lot on Bethesda rd. just east of Bayview. There are tonnes of great single track of all types. Chutes, jumps, berms and overall and it goes as far as Bathurst. Love it!

Amazingly dry even after a rain , second time there so I was able to piece way more of the trails together and find more gradual climbs to the downhill sections. Certain areas in the east side were closed for conservation rehabilitation .... but still lots of other sections to ride. Worth the trip!

Pretty suprised to see so many good reviews on these trails. I usually ride Durham Forest /Walker Woods/ Glenn Major and Dakar North which in my opinion are quite a bit better.

That being said... these trails are worth a trip if you're looking for something new to ride. Lots of quick up and down twist and turn roller coast type trails which come off as challenging. Whoever built these trails obviously has no interest in flow. Seems like every time you pick up any speed you are quickly redirected to a tight turn or a technical assent. Layout of the trails seemed really strange sometimes with tight turns followed by jumps or log overs with absolutly no run up. They're not so technical in the sense of roots and rocks but they will keep your thumb working hard constantly shifting thoes gears around.

For an experienced rider who likes to hit jumps this place might be your heaven. In what seemed like the center of the forest there is quite a few scetchy jump lines that look quite fun. Most of them are doubles and you won't find any table tops. I would consider myself a slightly above average rider and found myself a little intimadated by these jumps. If I wasn't alone I definitely would have sent them but I was too worried about taking a nasty spill by my lonesome. So if you're planning to do the jumps bring a buddy. You could easily spend 2 hours on the same 4-5 trails in this 'jumps' area.

The trails also seem like the need some maintenance... most of the jump and landings really need work as well as fallen trees and over grown trails. Definitely expect to be heading home with some cuts on your arms from trailside thorns, branches, ect.

All that being said... I would consider going back. Maybe not frequently because I live 10 minutes from Durham forest, but maybe once a year or so.

If you are coming from far I would recommend driving 25 min east to the Durham forest area instead. You'll have way more options and find what I believe are better trails.

Awesome place to spend a few hours , tons of trails . Not hard to get lost but if you follow the trails clockwise they tend to always bring you back to the main trail . Lots of fun !!! Be nice if we could mark out some sort of circuit to really get some good flow going but regardless it's part of the adventure !

Best kept secret ever.. light rain made for good traction for the hundreds of switchbacks climbing and descending. Talked to one of the trail builders with an out of control level of enthusiasim for what he does. Use a gps , Trailforks to navigate.

Awesome place. Had no idea that Richmond Hill had a place like that until today. Not sure how it is in the summer but it was perfect for Fat biking. No ice and good amount of snow. I hope it snows some more soon. It has a few steep up/downhills but it was pretty tacky and made it even more fun.

This trail system is actually pretty great. I was pleasantly surprised, and the jump runs are really cool. The topography is quite impressive here. As far as parking goes, you can park across the street on Bridgewater instead of the little patch of gravel (as you can forget about backing out with the traffic on Stouffville). Anyway, I definitely recommend riding here if you're in the area.

Pretty good trail for a city location, the only thing that is annoying is the lack of parking. One tiny spot just on Stouffville, hell to get out of due to a constant stream of cars flying by.

Went there for first time today. Great intermediate trails. Well maintained. Lots of single track but hard to get lost!

Were able to catch one more ride before leaving Toronto. Great trails. Well maintained. The only problem is that there are too many side trails and can easily get lost.

Great trail to with so many hidden trails all over the place. Some steep up hills and twisty singletrack. a nice place to hit up since its so close to Toronto.

Bayview now runs completely through between Stouffville Rd. and Bloomington, and there are now new subdivisions in the area, so many of the old trailheads (and some of the trails) are gone. Some trails blocked off as well.

Still not a bad place for training rides.

Rider questions

Q: Is there parking? Is there trail indicators? Looking for a change of scenery for tomorrow.
A: Yes there is parking for two cars in front of the trailhead. There are no trail indicators but just download trail forks on your phone its pretty accurate. The place is not that big so I wouldn't worry too much about getting lost.
