Mountain Biking Dufferin County

****   Add a review
#20 of 308 mountain bike trails in Ontario
#1,268 in the world

This place is a true gem. The singletrack is supremely sweet and dries in an instant -- this is the place to ride after rainfall (everywhere else will be muddy; this place dries right up). The flow is fantastic and new sections are added every year, courtesy of a legit group of mountain bikers who know how to build trails. The singletrack is tight -- in some places, the dense forest comes right into the trail edge. There's fantastic flow, switchbacks, challenging climbs with roots and some human-made obstacles (log rollovers, stumps, etc.) The group that builds creates sections that will challenge riders of all skills (options galore). Start in the parking lot and through "Bernie's trail," a playground for kids that will test your skills in tight quarters. The trails flow from there.

Trails are perfect with all the rain we've had. Wood-works are rotting steadily though.

Good conditions all around . Out skirts and east areas have numerous multi use trails for dirt bikes , horses , hiking , biking etc and they go on for miles. Areas closest to the parking locations have the winding single track . Great area to ride and rack up km.

New connector trails between existing singletrack have been built this year, making it possible to ride 30 km of amazing flow. Plus great connections in the attached Tosorontio Tract just add to the fun. Find a local who'll be more than happy to show you around. Visit www.teamvango.ca for organized rides.

As previously described, If you can find the deep single track, you'll love it.
Getting to it is a pain.

Ben, check out a group ride at Dufferin -- they're posted on TeamVanGo.ca and there's usually at least one a week throughout the year. It's the best way to learn the trails and the people are GREAT!

I ride this trail at least two times a week and sometimes as many as four. It's outstanding ... and I'm not just saying that because it's basically in my backyard. I have ridden lots of trails in the area and beyond, but this is still my fave. There's a 10 km stick-and-loop trail called the Lollipop that can be accessed from the parking lot -- just go through the tight skills trail and it flows from there. When you hit the triangular pile of cedar rails and posts, GO LEFT (opposite of the red arrow). This loops around and brings you right back to the parking lot. It's fast, flowy fun. Or you can run a near 20 km continuous loop with the same start, but bear left in the middle of the first pine plantation (you'll see tracks) and head down the hill. You're headed toward Ken's (memorial) trail. A new section of trail (at the back of the property) now connects this trail to the Trail to Nowhere, which gets you back to the Lollipop. It's remarkably flowy with roots, climbs, switchbacks, a rock garden, several log rollovers and some of the most gorgeous scenery anywhere. The only caveat? The doubletrack -- and sometimes the singletrack -- sometimes gets used by equestrians, so mind the poo in places. Still, the place is sandy, which means you can be on the trail (without doing any damage) when there's a light rain -- there's almost complete canopy cover so light rain often doesn't make it to the ground. And it drains almost instantly. This is a hidden gem.

Fat heaven! Narrow, hard-pack singletrack snow trails are tight and technical for fat riding. Switchbacks and good billygoat climbs. The snowshoers have really helped pack it down. There are also snowmobile trails there and they're fine with fatties. You. Must. Try.

This place is a hidden gem to say the least.

There are no maps for the single track so finding your way around is a bit challenging, but there is literately ENDLESS single track. Not just average single track either - really good flowing single track!

Berms, small bridges, jumps, plenty of fast descents and steep climbs!

The trails are build by some really legit locals who have a bunch of VW vans - the trails are always maintained and in great shape.

If you find a good loop you can literly ride at least 30km of single track solid non-stop with no double track cuts which is pretty intense for Ontario.

However it is pretty easy to get lost inside the forest as the double track snakes all over and does not follow NSEW - however worst case the park is surrounded by highways / roads so you can always find a way out.

Best bet is to follow the trail you see from the parking lot facing south and then enjoy from there!

These trails get a lot of horse traffic, so much of the network is rutted, chopped up and loamy. There are classic single tracks, but you need to find them (one such trail leaves from the parking lot). But soon afterwards, you are back on the horse trails. There are better rides closer to the city. If you like this area, I'd suggest the Hockley Valley area to the southwest as an alternative.

The place is kind of abandoned for MTB ,but that's good thing because you are going to be alone in a huge forest. Make sure to have GPS on you or else you will be lost .Im dead serious GPS is MUST. No any signs or maps. Awesome ride with ups and downs along the way. Place is huge probably over 50km of single track. Level of difficulty anything between Intermediate to Advance would be my guess....LOL

Great trail! Rode early spring, so leaves were covering most of the area. Lots of good climbs with some real tech areas. Good drops and lots of man made terrain to keep the adrenaline pumping.

Caution: Horseback riders using doubletrack* Review edited 4/22/2011

Awesome flowing singletrack that seems to go on forever. Lots of good climbs and decents with a little bit of technical rooty switchbacks tossed in here and there. The sand base means that the trail will dry up fast after a rain.

There are alot of trails back here, easy to make a few different loops, but also easy to get lost. On my first time out I lost myself and found myself a few times, just keep in mind your direction of travel and the roads that boarder the forest.

This is a network of trails with both flowing singletrack with burms in the turns as well as some sweet climbs and decents. There are also connecting multiuse double tracks networking around in a grid pattern.

Rider questions

Q: How beginner friendly is it? I've ridden some downhill and know my way around a bike but my gf has 1 day of experience with downhill. Blue DH tracks were fine but when we ventured into the red DH trails it ended with scared faces and walking down. :)
