Mountain Biking Standley Lake

***   Add a review
#322 of 1,391 mountain bike trails in Colorado
#3,042 in the world

This trail is great for beginners who are looking for some exercise close to home (if you live in the area :-)). The views of Standley Lake and the mountains are great from the shoreline. There are many route options on this small trail system that has a good mix of short climbs and downhill sections. The entire trail network is so small that any route will be just fine and about the same. There's no getting lost here so explore and have fun. Don't forget to spend some time in the NW part of the trail which borders a pretty big bald eagle nesting area.

It is a fun trail if you explore it with many features that are actually pretty fun and some way to gnarly but most of it is easy great trail to start on

Not much of a mountain biking trail. Dreadfully uninteresting singletrack shared with lots of walkers.

I live next door so its a good place to go if you don't have much time. In 2016 the Rocky Mountain Greenway was built from Stanley Lake across t the Westminster Hills open space about 2 miles. There are a lot of trails that spin off the Greenway. My favorite goes to Mowers reservoir the a single track west to Indiana street then north along Indiana street up a ridge then back eat to the Greenway. Climbing the ridge is a challenge. There are other unnamed trails through the open space.

I recently went on the trail and it was really overgrown and the tall grass made it hard to navigate. Easy and fun if you are looking for a trail close to home.

We used to ride our bmx bikes to standley when we were kid's.There used to be hill drops and a jump by the east shoreline so you could use the lake as a foam pit to practice your wildest stunts and land in the lake to break a bad fall. These days the lake grounds have been worked over hard, there is no longer the natural open area on the east side and is all man made trail and spillway.Even all the trees on this side of the lake are gone. And yes, there are tons of nats and sqeeters out here and makes for an annoying ride most of the time, and the trails dont really flow all that well. The previous poster is right, usally get here to start the summer off to get the legs and lungs primed.I have got so bored here a couple of time's I started to use the man made spillway rock garden to ride some technical stuff, pinch flatted and bent my rotor and scratched my rims up on the deep rock crevices. That was the coolest thing about riding here was that there was a few onlookers walking the trail that stopped and watched my bored a$$ attempting to clear the man made rock garden which is actually a feat in itself. Its worth the points to review it though,so if your ever in the area it'll only take about a half hour to 45 mins. to ride the trails depending on how much time you feel like spending here once you get to riding. Its kinda cool to ride the shorline for awhile and there are eagle viewing areas as well to spend some time and take pics that are pretty cool to do.

This is a easy ride that is poorly marked. Thankfully, it is over open prairie so the trails are pretty easy to figure out. If you are a decent rider you probably won't enjoy this ride. Might be a good one to save for a quicky after work if you are nearby. Otherwise, save yourself the trouble. The lake views are nice but the mosquitoes get annoying during the ride. Also, there are tons of prairie dogs along the trail that borough in their holes as you pass. * Review edited 9/22/2008

Decided to drive the 12 miles and check out Standley lake since I'm just breaking the rust off the legs. The entire trail system is contained within the shore of Standley lake. There are quite a few drop in points alongside the road (not just from the parking area). One thing to be mindful of is there are a ton of prarie dog mounds all over the place and you'll hear the dogs barking (sounds like a chirp) as you ride. Closer to the shore there were clouds of small gnats everywhere. Bring glasses and ride fast to avoid them sticking to you. Easy riding for the most part. Nothing too technical except for some small drops and mud near the shoreline.
