Four individuals in winter clothing are standing beside their fat-tire bikes on a snowy trail. The landscape is covered in snow, with sparse vegetation and a cloudy sky, creating a cold, wintry atmosphere. Shane

Mountain Biking Shane's Loop

****   Add a review
#27 of 319 mountain bike trails in Idaho
#2,737 in the world

Take the trail that starts off along side the dirt road to start, turn up at the second parking spot from start of the trail (at the shooting range) at the top of the hill take a left, follow this winding up-hill to the big intersection. Take a left up to Three Bears and go up a climb to the next intersection. Turn right here. Go up this long climb to the next intersection which will be Three Bears Trail. This is the top of the loop. Ride down to the first intersection (you will be on the brakes hard) turn right. This will take you back around the front of the mountain. Down to the big intersection and this point don't back track, take a left. This will wind you all the way back to the parking with about 4 different options all ending up at the same place.

Seemingly un-maintained singletrack. Dry and hard packed. Nice views of Boise and a decent workout.

nicely put together and very smooth. Was not much of a challenge but if you want to just pump it out and fly then this trail would be fun fun

If you've done my Shane's Loop run and you want a new challenge but you really like Shane's, this is a harder version of Shane's and will test your strength and drive. This isn't just Shane's loop backwards, it's much more.

Instead of taking an immediate left at the trailhead, go straight on the small road past the first three trailheads near the road. Keep going around the side of the hill along the fence line. Go down the hill. The trail turns to single track. At the first 4-way intersection, go left. This will take you up the switchbacks. At the top of the switchbacks, take a right at the intersection. This is a nice winding uphill cruse. After a while you will come to a familiar intersections. This time turn to your right and go straight up the hill. This first little climb is intense but it levels off and wraps around the hill for a fun ride with some interesting twists. After this you come to a "T" in the trail. Here you will take a left and start a really hard climb to the top. Only once have I gone up this non-stop. Once at the top you backtrack my original Shane's Loop until you get to the top of the shooting range hill (The first climb on Shane's Loop) Here take a Left instead of going down the hill. This will connect you into the ridge line back to the parking. Enjoy the ride but be prepared for a tough one. This is a TFGB favorite.
