Wildcat Mountain / Monarch

The trail is closed till March 31. Currently at the trail to get to this trail is still a little bit muddy however it still lotta fun. Kind of a good hill on the way there so it's kind of a mile and a half decent incline. Do not use the directions that are on this app they take you three or 4 miles away.

This is Rocky Heights middle school and where you will park to get to the entrance. Have fun probably not good for little kids until probably mid teens.

Fun pair of lollypop trails. Some technical looking sections but fairly tame with suspension.

This place is a cool track. It is really easy with a few technical bits but really fun. The beginning from the trailhead is a lot of uphill but that is really fun when coming back. I then go on this other trail that I don't know the name of. This trail has a technical rock section that could be difficult to beginners. I then go on the watering hole loop. This is a fun loop but a rock garden at the beginning going into a stream and then a even amount of uphill and downhill on this 3.3 mile loop. Overall it's a great trail and I would recommend it.

Fun trails, though very sanitized. There are a few spots where you can find some technical bits, but otherwise its all very easy.

One of my local favorites for sure. I have been riding this trail for several weeks now at least once or twice a week. I must say, I had a hard time finding the trail at first as I tried to rely on the single tracks app for directions so I recommend not doing that. Very easy, start at the middle school next to rock canyon high school. There is parking right by the trail head which will put you on the east/west trail at first. This will lead you to the actual trail and there's a map at the start near the parking lot. Watch out for lost cows on this section as I nearly ran into one that had somehow wondered off the nearby pasture. There is a bit of some uphill to get to wildcat mountain, about a mile and a half or so. This does make for a really fun ride back though. Once you reach the gate, I usually go left on the waterhole trail, do the out and back lookout trail which I highly recommend, back to waterhole, continue going left then do the last trail loop which I can't recall the name. All this back to the parking lot is about 8.5 miles. I do want to add that although I work in highlands ranch I do not live there and have never been kicked out by anyone. It does say that it's a private trail for residence but never seen anyone out there to enforce that. Just a really fun, nice flowy single track with minimal climbs, one small technical section, and some nice downhill. I brought my wife who is completely new to mountain biking and she did just fine. Highly recommend it

Beautiful, fun, and well maintained. Good beginner trail with very little climbing and only a spot or two of technical skill needed.

This is my go to after or before work ride. You can make this a walk in the park or a burner. So luck to have this right out the back door!

Pumpa'licious. These short loops are littered with wonderful rollers and perfect dirt. Made to go fast and effortlessly this is a great place to flow. Not many features or berms but feels like primative flow track.

This is near my house so I ride it frequently. Nice single track withoutout any real technical sections. Good for beginners.

I'm not a DC fan and there's a reason I live in Co Springs instead, but, there's lots of open trails in DC. Spruce Mountain, RIdgeline Open Space, Dawson's Butte, Hidden Mesa, Memmen Ridge, Lincoln Mountain, Glendale Open Space, Bluffs Regional Park and more. Sure, they're not the Monarch Crest or the Slickrock Trail, but there are places to ride. The first few on that list are pretty sweet rides actually.

This is a really nice ride for being in my backyard. I work from home and ride it several times a week at lunch or after work. It's great for training and keeping your skills up. Also not to difficult to take a beginner along and show them the ropes. It's the highest point around in Denver and has some great views. Also, if you're lucky you might see 1 or both of a pair of Golden Eagles nesting in the cliffs facing Monarch.

It's a private trail for residents of highlands ranch. I went just after a big rain. It was wet and muddy. A good easy ride with good views but not much more.

This is a perfect trail for residents of Highlands Ranch, really fun singletrack with lots of wildlife and views that make you feel like you are out in the wilderness instead of in the middle of the suburbs. Not difficult but a few rock sections and a creek crossing keep it interesting. Great beginner and after work ride!

This is a great trail for beginners. I started at RHMS, rode up the public East/West trail, entered the gate at Waterin' Hole Loop, went left/clockwise, rode out/back on Wildcat Mountain (nice views!), then left again on Waterin' Hole, over the rocks/slickrock, entered Ponderosa rode that CCW, then finally back on Waterin' Hole and back to RHMS via East/West Trail.

These trails are better IMO than the Highlands Point Trail System. Yes you do need to be part of HRCA. Great beginner trails, nice quick ride for Intermediates, but Experts will be bored. Note that the Wildcat Mountain trail itself closes in the Spring due to nesting raptors.* Review edited 8/25/2011

This trail has been behind my house for over 2 years and I didn't even know it! Rode it and fell in love. Great mix of man made jumps and tight winding trails that have some good uphill rants and some really fast downhill as well. There is even a section that has you slowly navigating your way through some rock gardens! I've seen lots of wildlife; elk, deer, chipmunks, lizards, and had to bunnyhop over a 6 foot bull snake after seeing a rattlesnake 5 min earlier. So nice that it's over 15 miles (round trip) and right in my backyard!

This little network was a real surprise. The trails, while not technical or difficult, are interesting and entertaining. There is good flow throughout and most of the singletrack is nice and narrow. It's surprisingly narrow as it winds through some bushes with blind corners, far moreso than I would have thought the safety Nazis would allow. In any case, this trail is a great asset for HR residents (which I am not, but I know someone who is). If you've got a buddy in HR, have him/her give you the escort in and have a ball.

Great meadow terrain with rolling hills. Never too steep to keep the speed up.
