Mountain Biking Palmetto Forest-lake Marion

#87 of 115 mountain bike trails in South Carolina

From the trail head you have two choices to make. If you head West, you will find an EASY trail that takes you to the lake. Once at the lake (on top of the levy) you can go for many miles around the lake and continue with the Palmetto Forest Trail (which runs in various sections through the state of South Carolina. I was so bored and uninspired after about two miles that I removed a spoke and stuck it in my EYE!!!

I have to first say that it rained fairly heavy only two nights before I tried to ride the second trail to Wadboo Creek which was 6 miles per the sign. The trail began promising and was clearly marked with white hash marks on the tree's. There were a couple of logs in the trail but over all a nice ride. after about a half mile, you will cross Hwy 52 and then back into the woods. There were several large water obsticles that had foot bridges (half logs laid down). They were not "rider friendly as they were way off the trail and had no approach. So I had to dismount a few times. I was determined to make the six miles so I could give a full report, however, at about the 1.5 mile mark, I encountered a swamp and the foot bridge had been destroyed and I was unable to cross without trudging through shin high swamp mud...I turned around. If somebody knows this trail. Please let us all know if there are better times to ride here. I descirbed the trail as "nothing special" if this is the normal conditions. there was beautiful scenery and seemed promising if the trail improved beyond the point I turned around...

Was taken here by a friend who warned that these are mainly hiking trails. The trails were slightly boring but there were trails everywhere. Felt like we could have ridden all day. Overall...I give it a pass. Not worth a trip.
