Mountain Biking Kachess Ridge Loop

****   Add a review
#51 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington
#2,682 in the world

Ride along Kachess Lake (fsr 4818) for ~4.5 miles of logging rd., then rt on fsr 4824, a fairly
tough climb (4 miles and 3,000 vert.) on logging rd to ridge top. Trail starts at that point: very
scenic, steep, challenging, lots of creek crossings, meadows, rock spires, last few miles of trail is
dissapointing horse trail (steep, rocky and nothing special) lots of brakes and just going downhill
straight til power lines at bottom, return to car under powerlines

Whether you're shuttling or grinding up the gravel road, the singletrack descent is a pleasant surprise - mixing incredible views with alpine meadows and old growth forests. If you're looking for machine built flow, this is not the trail for you; but, if you're looking to challenge yourself on steep rooty and rocky terrain that's flowy in it's own right - you'll enjoy what this trail has to offer.

Lets see.... Scenic ride along the lake, then a hour long granny gear grind, then another hour to drop the 2,800 feet in 8 miles. Was it worth it "OH YEA" This is one tough trail even going down hill. Trail is quite popular with the shuttle bikes, probably the best bikes for the trail. Long travel trail bike with a dropper post will also do the job. Spent the entire downhill in the mid or bottom position on the dropper post. Some beautiful singletrack through the meadows and woods, but a good part of the trail is a steep, rocky, rooty, loose, high pucker factor riot. * Review edited 9/5/2011

The WTA has done a ton of work on this trail over the last few years. Be advised this is a very technical and difficult trail. A true 5 chain ring grunt. If you start by parking under the power lines, it's a 6 mile senic ride along the lake to get to the uphill. The uphill is a very steep logging road, with great views at every turnout. After reaching the top you have a short technical decent before a tough, 1/4 mile hike-a-bike. After the hike-a-bike, it may be all down hill, but it never gets easy, until you're at the powerlines again.

Trail has been great but the last few years the pack animals have torn up the trail a bit. Make. There are some great sections on this trail but the lower 1/2 has some sections that are torn up. The views are great. An inch+ of snow on the ground at the top last week.* Review edited 10/25/2008* Review edited 10/25/2008
