Start at the gate at the parking lot and stay to the right. The trail will have a slight incline as you move along the right side of a small point. Approximately a mile into the ride the trail will fork. Stay to the right and go toward Horseshoe Lake and follow the trail as it flows up and away and then back down to just above the parking lot of the lake. There will be a trail marker and fork at the start of Maidu trail and you immediately start the .35 mile climb up to North Rim trail. There are 3 major switchbacks and numerous waterbars and steps to navigate. At the top you can proceed back to the start point on the double track of North Rim. It is fairly easy to navigate but unforgiving lava cap. A perfect after work quick loop with a good climb, sweeping singletrack and fast rocky doubletrack back. Option to North Rim doubletrack is to head straight over to the fenceline and ride the Fenceline Trail singletrack back to the start point.
Great uphill climb. Good way to get a feel for the rocky condition.
