This trail has something for everyone numerous trees laying in trail make this a very challenging trail for beginners and a fun trail for more advanced riders. trail occasionally dumps out onto the gravel access road but definatly a great urban set trail

Coming from south Hampton, go north on I-64 take the HAMPTON RDS CENTER PKWY WEST EXIT 261A. Go straight for about 3 miles. Turn RIGHT onto GATEWOOD RD. Follow road to the small parking area by lake.
Most directionally challenged trail around. Zero signs, and far too many alternate paths. Obstacles and features are ill kept, and degraded. Other local trails are better.
Thank |Very wet summer this year and some wind have downed a few large trees. Just rode most of the system on Thursday and it was clear.
Thank |Great track for beginners but still has some tight turns and fun sections for intermediate riders. Trail is a bit confusing with a lot of unmarked trails branching off. Follow the pink ribbons and it'll pretty much take you around.
Thank |These trails are rank as intermediate by they are beginner by far. They are switch back mania. Kudos to the people who built so many trail miles in such a small space. The bad is they are not visitor friendly at all. No signs, no directions and no map. Trails shooting every where. Very confusing which is sad because it could be really good and fun with direction and signage.
Thank |The trail it self has nice turns and inclines with some downhills with switchbacks at the bottom. It's a good workout and it's laid out nicely. However there are no directions or markings on the trail.
Thank |Well groomed, nice grip, no debris. Great conditions on rolling, slightly rooty hills surrounding Lake Maury. A couple of log roll-overs for fun, straight declines and winding tree grips. Good way to burn an hour one-way.
Thank |A solid intermediate course when considering entry/exit trails close to the lake and short, steep inclines. You will have to dismount a couple of times if you do not have your line set up due to rooty surface on the climbs. Webs are like guitar strings out here; one giant, fat spider rappelled off my helmet brim after he caked me with his stringy fortress. Once you get to the "roller-coaster", groomed trail it is a blast! Several rolling switchbacks and grippy turns. There is a lot of trash out at the "BMX" section with a couple of launches, didn't have a bag to haul out the garbage. Overall, needs some attention, but fun to explore. Primary trail is marked with pink ribbons on the trees, but easy to get lost if you don't hug the lake because of several shoot-outs leading to private land or dead ends. It's possible to do a loop around the lake if you exit out of the back of the hospital parking area.
Thank |Is anyone interested in getting together over a weekend or something and doing a little trail clean-up? With light maintenance and maybe a little trail marking this place would be excellent. I live nearby, but am a novice when it comes to trail construction.
Thank |The trail was a bit of fun. Not very well maintained though. The trail is covered in leaves on most places. It isn't marked except for the trailhead which can lead to some confusion. I ended up doing the loop backwards because there was no indication of which way to go and I'd never been there before. The dirt jumps are eroding and a few of the wooden ramps are broken. The teeter totter works but is starting to break. There isn't any major elevation change throughout the trail but it does make good use of the small hills and valleys surrounding the lake. Overall it's a nice trail but definitely needs some TLC.
Thank |Never Used, Not well maintained
Thank |This is a fun trail, there's a little bit of everything. A mild double track and some more technical single track with a few jumps. I'm just getting back into riding so I thought it was great. Not overcrowded at all. Watch out for the roots. Will definitely go back.
Thank |I'm currently on a work trip in the area and took my bike with me to test this trail. I like the trail it has a nice flow. It doesn't really have any elevation gain or loss but that's a no brainer so close to the ocean. There are a couple of small jumps on the trail and a few log obstacles. It seems the fallen trees others have complained about were removed. I just took a 4 mile loop but others said they done a 10 mile loop so there is much I didn't see on this trail. All in all I liked the ride criss crossing through the wooded area around Lake Maury.
Thank |Absolutely love these trails!!! The seesaw, balance beam, and jumps are awesome!!! Definitely a favorite of mine
Thank |Great trail with little/no markings/signs. You'll probably get lost your first time there but you'll have a great time doing it.
Thank |I rode this to get back into the groove of xc, being fat and out of shape I am fairly sure I died twice on this trail
Thank |I was pretty happy with this trail, especially given the location. It's a rather large network of mostly single and double track with a few features here and there, lots of logs, some bridges, jumps, and at least one teeter-totter. Though there is no meaningful elevation change, the trail takes advantage of moderate undulations for opportunities to pick up speed and fight the roots climbing back up short hills. Definitely a quality beginner/intermediate trail but probably somewhat boring for repeated use if you're in the more advanced category.
Thank |This trail needs a lot of maintenance it has a lot of wash out areas and messed up obsticals. Could be nice if they took care of it
Thank |Rode this trail for the first time today. It was very challenging. Alot of fast downhills. Kind of rooty in some spots. Be prepared for accorns it is like riding on marbles. Alot of obstacles on this one. You can bust your butt real quick. The bridges and a few of the jumps are in dier need of maintenance rotten wood everywhere. Also be prepared for some washouts along the trail. I found myself having to get off my bike several times. I ran over a black snake and had 3 squirrels run in front me. I was almost at the end and rode up on 4 young guys smoking weed and they had a Pit Bull running around crazy. It was an eventful ride.
Thank |I'm just gettin in to the sport. From the trails in the area I've ridden, this one is the best so far. A lot of trail stuffed in a small area but it gives you a lot of options.
Thank |Rode about 9 miles here. Felt like the trail was very crammed into a small space but it worked well! Lots of fun jumps and ttfs around what seemed like every corner. Definitely a surprise for the Newport News area. Reminded me of Freedom Park in a few spots. Pretty cool little hidden gem for the Hampton Roads area.
