Mountain Biking Maudslay State Park

***   Add a review
#87 of 223 mountain bike trails in Massachusetts
#5,532 in the world

Though rich in history, Maudslay doesn't offer anything more than some nicely packed rolling doubletrack and some interesting views. The park is somehow split into two sides, one of which is mostly wooded trails, and the other half has double track going through some wide open spaces, including former house foundations, a few stone bridges, and a habitat for the bald eagle (which was nowhere to be seen). It's really just a nice place to take a leisurely ride; though the trails are perfect for tearing through, there are far too many horses, people, dogs, people with kids, kids with dogs, people on horses, and joggers to avoid.

Getting there
Take 95 North to exit 57 (Route 113). Bear right onto 113 East for about half a mile. Turn left onto Noble Street (directly after the cemetery) and ride through the nice houses until you reach the park (2 miles or so). Parking area is on your left - $2 for a day pass to park. The trails start in the field across the street.

Great trails, however it is loaded with horse and dog waste. Our tires were constantly covered with waste. Best bet would be to cross the street at the gates and ride the hell out of the single track.

More trail markers would make this place more enjoyable. Easy ride and nice people.

Checked it out today - lots of people to avoid, even on a Wednesday morning. Rather muddy on the double track, though some of it was nicely frozen (and still iced over, which was cool). There is some neat scenery if you like history, but otherwise, it's a basic ride that's not worth the drive if you live near Boston.
