Mountain Biking Brown Canyon
#70 of 417 mountain bike trails in Arizona
The Brown Canyon Trail is fun and tough to ride. It's a 6 mile loop and it dumps you back onto Ramsey Road about a mile up from the parking area. I listed this as a technical ride based on my current skills as an amateur rider, I wouldn't recommend this trail to a beginner. There are a lot of short steep rocky climbs as well as roots and small boulders to maneuver around. You will encounter a few soft sandy areas on your way up the canyon. Cross the creak where the Miller Peak Trail starts and climb up the fire road. This takes you to a fast downhill section before exiting back onto Ramsey Road. Enjoy!!

Starting from Sierra Vista, drive south on highway 92 for aprx. 5 miles. Turn right onto Ramsey Canyon Road and drive 4 miles. Look for the Brown Canyon Trail Head sign on the right side of the road, there is a small dirt parking area at the trail head.
3 miles up, 3 miles down. If this trail averages about an hour to ride you'll spend the first 45 minutes climbing on an old jeep trail. You'll pack at a sign for Miller Peak. from there you'll head down some amazing single track. Great ride and will defiantly test endurance.
Thank |Great trail cant go wrong
Thank |If ridden counterclockwise from the parking at the trailhead it provides some challenges. A lot of loose rock and some sandy washes await but the ride out of the canyon was a blast. Some wonderful scenery and lots of animals will accompany your ride. Will certainly do it again. Not a beginner trail ridden counterclockwise though!
Thank |A fun intermediate trail with some nice flow parts. The middle section a little mini-downhill ride, you just have to pay for it with a ride up the road from the parking lot and a steep double track climb. Be watchful for other trail users I've come across hikers and horses in some of the section in the valley.
Thank |This is a nice beginner to intermediate trail with some elevation gain as you ride up into the oak forests of the Huachuca Mountains.
Thank |Rode this in mid-February from the parking lot along Ramsey Canyon road clockwise like others. Steep rutted jeep road was a grunt, but it eventually tops out and you can have some fun, particularly after the water trough. One steep rock section, but everything else is great. Take the Brown Canyon Ranch trail at the bottom and check out the ranch, ride the nature loop and visit the blimp. It's all good.
Thank |This trail can be ridden from Sierra Vista from town on singletrack, riding by the Border Patrol blimp, they are watching. Or you can drive to Brown Canyon and start there. None of this trail burned in last years fire. You'll climb a doubletrack to the top of the ride. At the top there is a shallow water trough. Then it's a singletrack descent back to the national forest buildings and bathroom. From there the loop is 6 miles long, from town 12.2. The singletrack descent is a fun romp down a mountain thru oak/juniper and some pine at the top. Manzanita is common. Edible white peppergrass and lambs quarter are plentiful. * Review edited 7/21/2012
Thank |I ride this trail nearly every weekend. Go clockwise from the trail head up Ramsey canyon road for a steep technical climb and a gradual downhill or go counterclockwise for a gradual rocky climb and a very fast downhill taking you back to Brown Canyon road. Trail ranges from wide trail to tight single track throughout. Beware of the Loose rock on a lot of the trail and some soft sand near the trail head. Not the best trail but about the best in Sierra Vista. Definitely not for beginners
Thank |great trail, veteran or beginner you can still have a blast. Good technical challenge (which in arizona defines a bunch of rocks), a few good jumps/ drops, and makes a great circle. I might add that if you bypass the big climb back to the parking lot, and make a right at the next Y through the wood "gate", you can ride right by the old farmhouse to an established road that spits out right onto ramsey canyon just below the parking area.
Thank |This is a pretty nice trail to ride. I like to ride it the other way. leave the parking lot on ride up Ramsey Canyon Rd for about 0.5 miles, turn right on Brown Canyon Rd and ride for about 0.5 miles to the fork. take the left fork and climb climb climb up the road, until you get to the ridge with the views, then down the rocky bit to the single track trail and the rocky, swoopy, fast single track fun, then you have to ride some dirt roads and back to Ramsy Canyon Rd for about 0.1 miles up to the parking lot.
Thank |Great scenery and good climbs.
