Mountain Biking Kelly Canyon/Table Rock

*****   Add a review
#39 of 319 mountain bike trails in Idaho
#3,358 in the world

The initial climb is soft, so you might wash out a little. There are enough roots and rocks to add
some challenge to the climb and some air to the descent. The trail forks at one point, we took the
right, but the left looked good too. Trail is pretty twisty. Eventually, we happened on a vehicle-
accessible forest road that appeared to keep going for a while.

Getting there
From Archer, you go south on the Archer/Ririe Hwy, turn left at the sign for Kelly Canyon Ski resort. Take another left at the brown sign for Kelly Canyon, Heise Hot Springs, etc. Pass Mountain River Ranch, then Heise, then Kelly Canyon resort. Within a mile, there will be a turnoff to your right--take it and then immediately turn left down (in elevation) a forest road to the Table Rock campsite (not to be confused with TableRock in Wyoming). Park outside of the campsite, the trailhead is on your left (also outside of the campsite).

The beginning of the trail is steep and soft, with some areas of loose rocks. About 1.5 miles is where it turns into single track. Beyond that is gets super technical, but then lays out to some very beautiful easy riding trail, there are lots of trails merging the higher you get with plenty of options. The ride down is super fun, but be careful!!!

Great uphill climb. Best way to hit the trail is from the top down. It's all downhill. There is a lot of motored traffic on these trails and makes the dirt super soft and torn up. Watch the very bottom too, some friends of mine weren't aware of the steep drop and the rocky road and paid the price. Great trail though, I'm definitely going again next weekend.

The real name for this trail (sorry I didn't have a map at the time) is Hawley Gulch. The sweetest, most awesome singletrack departs the fireroad at the upper bridge and then connects with the trail again at the lower bridge (after three stream crossings and some super-fun rollers). The singletrack is one of my favorite sections of trail. I took my non-athletic brother there a few months ago, and he said that part of the trail was the most fun he'd had in a long time!* Review edited 1/20/2010
