Mountain Biking Hirschberg C5
#50 of 151 mountain bike trails in Germany
The trails are mostly well-travelled logging/fire-roads, although at some points they turn into two-tracks. At some points near the summit of the ridge (488.1 m!) there are singletrack opportunites. These are generally very fast, short, and pebble-y, so be careful.
Also, near the 5, are two castle ruins, Hirschberg and another, smaller ruins. The small ruins have been blasted, and are unrecognizable except for a few small stone foundations. Hirschberg is slightly better, with the remains of a large toppled stone tower resting on it's large mound.
The scenery up in the Odenwald offers large, panoramic views of the Rhine Valley over Mannheim. On a clear day, you can see over 40 km to the Pfalz mountains.

Starting from Heidelberg, head north on the 3, following the "Bergstrasse". Go through Dossenheim, to Schriesheim, and then head into town. Park at the large wine cask parking area, and look at the town map to find the "5" trail/wanderweg. Follow the five on your bike into the mountains. From there, it's a grueling climb for several kilometers, so bring lots of water and powerbars.
