Mountain Biking First Landing State Park

***   Add a review
#69 of 300 mountain bike trails in Virginia
#2,629 in the world

Trail is a dirt road flat and some hills, but the scenery is awesome. You will see woods, creeks, swamps, marshes, and the trail ends at a beach area for swimming. On a hot summers day it is a great way to be outside and not get too hot riding. There is shade most of the way. The trail is marked very well. About half way you will ride into to a parking lot but just keep going you will see the bridge to continue on the trail which is now a double track dirt trail. Watch out for the sandy spots(keep the speed up or you'll get stuck and have to walk out of it).

Very calm trail on cape Henry, little to no obstacles and length is about 6.2 miles long. When your not feeling the singetrack this is a nice change of pace.

Many people still call it Seashore state park. Its right down the street from the house so I ride here quite a bit. Real fun on the fat tire bike. Like stated in all the other posts nothing tec, all flat but great scenery and no reason not to get in some good cardio

Been going to this park since it was named sea shore state park. Fun ride but not much in the way of bike challenges. The section nearest the beaches and marsh (64th St entrance) is less flat and more fun. There are some stretches with some sandy areas that can be rough on the chain and difficult to push though for novice riders but there are only a few of those spots. Scenery is amazing. You could easily knock out a 9 mile backtrack loop and not even realize you went that far. Watch out for joggers and walkers.

One star for mountain biking. Five stars for a leisure ride with young kids and the family. Good place to get out of the city and in to the woods. Bring bug spray in the summer. If you are a mountain biker, don't stray off on to the hiking only trails. That is very frowned upon. Hint hint!

Great place if you was on a date and she doesn't ride much. Just a easy pretty ride.

Probably the least technical trail in the state. The plus side of this is you can really push yourself from a cardio standpoint because there's really no reason to stop pedaling. Also one of the most scenic trails I've ever been on.

Located by Virginia Beach this park is very scenic and has several miles of trails to ride. Although not technical in the slightest it is very scenic and there are even a few beach spots in the park to swim. You can make a day trip of it if you go out the back of the park onto 64th street and take it up to the Virginia Beach Boardwalk. There you can hit the beach or grab something to eat at the many beachfront restuarants. Park does get muddy if it has rained.

great trail for conditioning..not technical but a good ride close to home. can be very crowded in the morning hours with joggers..great for me right now as I am just getting back in the saddle after a 12 year break.

Good place to bring the family or a date. If I were local, I'd probably ride here every now and then for the exercise but not for the trail. It's very flat with some nice scenery. I do not dig the sand pits...not fun at all.

i liked this trail. not knowing were to go at first i rode around until i found a trail. the first one i came across was a paved bike path that goes past great neck road. there are alot of stop signs and joggers and people walking their dogs. that trail is a couple miles long. then i found the cape henry path, this is hard packed sand and leaves with some roots and sand pits. its wide enough for bikers, hikers and joggers. there are some blind curves so you have to watch for people coming from the other direction. if you want fat burning work out, this is the place to do it.

Beautiful scenery! That is about it. Great starter for the beginners. Trail is about 6mi but only about 2.5mi of it is any fun.

If you're looking for bad-ass, tattooed, backward ballcap, rocky, rooty, boast about it in the bar action, this isn't for you and, frankly, no one will miss you. What it does have is an incredibly varied environment, with just about every Midatlantic microecology imaginable. There are areas where you can pick up some speed and swoop through twists and turns, but the trail's all about the nature and the surroundings. If you're really up to it and have the right tires (and an ID card) you can start riding at Cape Henry light to First Landing (crossing Shore Drive - be SUPER vigilant), through the park to 64th St, down Shore Drive, Pacific Ave, over the bridge and along the bike path to Dam Neck, along the beach there, back along the bike paths into Virginia Beach, take in the scenery along the boardwalk then back through Fort Story. Don't write off FLSP simply because it's not a true MTB ride.

Very boring, flat trail.....like riding on a dirt road.

This trail is very fun particularly due to its location. You can start in the park, or at 1st street and ride the bike path down to the end of the boardwalk (40th), then cruise oceanfront backstreets or bayside sidestreets down to 64th and enter the park picking up the Cape Henry trail to the left towards the beachfront (winding and fun) or the 5-6 mile leg towards Shore drive (other end of park). Either one is good exercise but the CH trail to the beach front has more scenery. Pretty good early morning when its not as busy.

I grew up right down the road from this trail. It is mellow and a great ride to bring a date. Great view, beach, sand, what more could you ask for. It gets busy during tourist season but it is low key during the off season. Real wide trail and lots of marsh and sand.
