Mountain Biking Tapeworm (Towers Of Power)

****   Add a review
#40 of 1,216 mountain bike trails in Washington
#2,108 in the world

Skill builder ride, nice quick after-work destination. It takes 1-2 hours to ride everything. This is a small system of trails that are tightly wound to make the most of a power utility company lot. There are now six trails: Crop Circles (only 1/2 can be ridden), The Tapeworm, Parasite, Mr. DNA, The Silkworm and BermSled. The CycoActive map is out of date and currently only lists a few of the trails, but it will get you started in the right direction. This is a trashy section of young deciduous trees, don't expect nice forest (this area is great night riding, just be cautious of low hanging branches).
•Bermsled: Flowy downhill with berms and jumps
•Mr. DNA: Technical with roots and rocks
•Parasite: Technical with sharp turns, roots, and log piles, many short steep ups and downs
•Tapeworm: Technical with structures, roots, drops, short uphills and log piles.
•Cropcircles: Maze-Like ride
•Silkworm: Flowy XC with optional drops, structures, and berms
•Main Path: Fire road/singletrack, easy, not hard features

Be careful on the turns if your brakes aren't good, especially in the winter months. A beginner could learn from the set of trails like line choice but it would be a challenge since there's many Turns and big roots

Very poorly maintained. No marking. Briars everywhere. A terrible experience.

Fun trails to work the turning and skills. I wouldn't call this beginner friendly but great to advance to the next level of riding if you push yourself.

This collection of trails disappointed me, but let me explain. It was just not what I expected. In a nutshell, it is poorly marked, and the trails are really, really hard. Now, this is likely the way that experts and hardcore shredders like it, but for a beginner, this place was way out of my league. I tried a bit of Mr. DNA, and had to bail. Tapeworm? Fageddaboutit. Ended up riding the power company trails instead, which were great. Four stars for the place, but it's NOT for beginners or those "looking to get into mountain biking".

Several different trails mixed through out the wooded areas. Ride around and explore! Lots of blackberries right now too! Not too busy on weekdays.

Spring 2014 someone has added a couple of great new loops with lots of options for all riding levels along the trail. Silkworm and Parasite trails are near the parking by Philip Arnold Park. The Tapeworm has to many big roots for me to get through on my bike.

I have ridden it twice. I am new at this and could do it OK but you need to watch closely. If you're a beginner go slow or better yet go with some one who has done it before. Some of the feature are getting run down so be careful. Lots of roots. Evergreen say it is only 100 feet elevation change but you do it 8 times. Can be quite the workout. Great place.

There are basically 3 trails here. An upper trail, the actual Tapeworm, and a run called Berm Sled at the bottom of the area. Just ride around and you can probably find them all. The upper trail and Tapeworm itself are decently technical and very twisty, as the name suggests, with some fun obstacles. Berm Sled is intermediate at the top and then transitions into some intense doubles at the bottom. Overall, it is a good place for a quick ride.

Very twisty; good for hardtails. Not many straights. Some new jumps put in. Almost exclusively single track. Excellent close-in (to Seattle/Renton) MTB riding. A bit lacking on scenery.

Great single track trail with sharp and twist turns, some ruths and ladders. Not really recommend for a beginer but people are different. Once you try it - you'll love it.

Great trail, Live right next to it so it's great for after work. We are on the look out for whoever blocks lines and tears down others ramps. Watch out when we find YA!!

A good quick technical ride. Lots of sharp twists and turns along with moderate ups and downs to get your heart pumping. Trail entrance can be a bit difficult to find so ask a local or use GPS coordinates. Lots of parking.

Rider questions

Q: I went there this last weekend, do you return on the power line access road or is there trail etiquette that you just pull over on the return up hill?

Q: Where do you park
A: Park at Phillip Arnold Park, go around the gate and up the paved road.
