Mountain Biking Katy Trail
#184 of 279 mountain bike trails in Texas
The Katy Trail runs from the West End and the American Airlines Center arena in the south, through Dallas past Knox Street, up to SMU and Mockingbird DART Station in the north.
It can be very aerobic or leasurely. The sights are a perfect mix of forest and urban. There are joggers and rollerbladers on the path as well which can be difficult when the trail is busy. I personally love it.
The trail is being extended this summer to reach from American Airlines Center to Airline Road near SMU. There will be more entrances and extensions to other parks in the future. The website will keep you updated on progress. http://www.katytraildallas.com

There is an entrance at Knox St. You can park behind Wierís Furniture. From Hwy 75, go west on Knox Street, turn left on Travis, go one block to Armstrong and make a right. Turn right behind Wiers and you will find gravel parking.
You will find another entrance at Lemmon and Cole. From Hwy 75, go west on Lemmon and make a left on Cole. Go through the next red light and you will find Carlisle Place on your right. Turn right on Carlisle Place and you will drive up to gravel parking for the entrance. If you get to Hall St. before turning onto Carlisle Place, you have gone to far.
The map location is incorrect. It is not located near I-20. It is located in part at least in the Uptown area of Dallas. I would not even use this trail for a workout because it will probably be too busy--better off with White Rock Lake for that. Katy Trail is not an off road trail.
Thank |Simple paved path. Very busy during peak hours, early mornings and mid-evenings, with people walking, running, and riding. The good, an easy and convenient path to get some exercise; the bad, those people that walk their dogs on a 10 foot leash that crosses the entire path and the groups of walkers that walk side-by-side taking up the entire trail.
Thank |This is an excellent trail for unwitting honkies that feel they are completely safe inside their bubble near their expensive townhomes and apartments. If you ride this trail, be sure to display your brand new iPod prominently, play it loudly so you have no idea what's going on and are completely unaware of your surroundings, and also carry cash, and your top-of-the-line cellphone in your hand if at all possible. Most importantly, stop for any hooded teenagers you may encounter. They probably just want to ask you how the trail is today.

I just found this account after all these years, and I'm ashamed of this lame attempt at being edgy, especially since I rode this perfectly lovely trail all the time when I lived there and loved being dumped out next to the Arena and on into downtown. Shame on me from 13 years ago, that smug little prick.
This is a Rail Trail. All paved and gets crowded when the weather is good. Upside is the "scenery" from the local college is good as well as the trophy wives keeping in shape. It's not 9miles as indicated but about 3-3.5.
Thank |I would hardly call this a mountain bike trail, it's paved. Maybe I don't know the whole story, I just moved back to this area. Perhaps the trail continues on past the end of the pavement at SMU. I dunno, I was on my road bike when I went on this trail. As far as a SINGLETRACK is concerned I'll have to rate it low. As far as a bike path, it's great, but not singletrack.
