Mountain Biking Mount Apatite
#26 of 121 mountain bike trails in Maine
At 325 acres it offers a little bit of everything, dense forest stands, semi-precious stone mining sites, abandoned quaries, ledges and large glacial erratics.
The trails are all natural surface ranging from old woods roads to sinuous singletracks. In all you'll find just under 8 miles of trails. They are very well maintained by the City. You'll notice many drainage features to keep water off the trails. There are long armored "turnpikes" to keep you high and dry in perpetually muddy areas. There are even benches every half mile of so in case you want to stop and take a break.
For a first ride I'd suggest following the blue blazed trails in a clockwise direction. This will maximize the downhills, although the trail is fun both ways. Then I'd suggest filling in the middle by doing all the red blazed trails.

From downtown Auburn, head out on Minot Avenue, past the intersection with Court St, Manley St, and Hotel Rd. After the Hotel Rd traffic light, turn Right onto the next road, Garfield. Turn left into the little league fields, then park your vehicle. Bike past the military facility, through the gate marked "pedestrians welcome," and straight to join the trail network.
Two Trailheads:
98 Small Rd. & 930 Garfield Rd (behind National Guard).
Trails are still closed.. only because if you don't dismount in so many wet areas you will destroy the trail surface with ruts that will slow the dry out process and could cause rider injury.
Thank |New trails by Cemenemba and volunteers rock the WNRs now!! Thank you:)
Thank |New signature trail flows so nicely...
Thank |Good trails with plenty of climbing. I did get rather turned around on my first ride there.
Thank |Great place to get lost! Trails marked a little better currently but take a map/GPS. Decent trail conditions, some rocks, not terribly technical but good workout with some elevation changes. Worth the ride for sure.
Thank |There are some great beginner trails but also harder ones. Great if you are just getting into the sport and want to try it out and have some fun.
Thank |Mostly Singletrack on wide XC Ski width corrordior, roots, and rocks. With a little exploring can score some sweet pure ST.
Thank |these trails provide some nice downhills, familiarity of trails and dry conditions are the key here.
Thank |Not the greatest trail system. The last time I rode this trail. approx a year ago the trials were in bad shape. They are ok for a short ride after work. Otherwise make the drive to Bradbury.
Thank |Only rated as More Diff due to the un-kept nature of the trails. Otherwise most of the trials are wider.
